Just 1 day is left for the much-awaited India vs Ireland clash in the 9th edition of T20 World Cup 2024, where a total of 55 group stage matches will be played between 20 teams for the first time and out of these teams, the Indian team are favourites to win the main event as they have got one of the best players in the squad.
The Indian team will be playing their opening game tomorrow against Ireland at the newly-built New York Cricket Stadium after playing 2 months of non-stop cricket in the concluded 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). India will be playing their first T20 International match after January 2024. The last T20I game they played was against Afghanistan after the Indian team played a 5-match Test Series against England and took part in the IPL from their respective franchise. On the other hand, the Ireland team’s morale will be very high as they are coming out in this series after defeating Pakistan in the opening match of the 3-match series and winning the Netherlands Tri-Nation T20Is. Not only that in the warm-up game against Sri Lanka, they defeated the Lankan Lions by 41 runs before entering the main event. Throwing light on this, let’s look at the 3 player battles to watch out for in the match between India and Pakistan.
1. Sanju Samson vs Mark Adair
Sanju Samson will be seen playing his first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after his impressive performance in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League from Rajasthan Royals franchise, where he not only helped his team to reach in the semi-finals but also played a pivotal role in scoring the most runs for the team. However, Samson has an interesting match-up against Ireland’s Mark Adair, as when they met the last time, Adair dismissed Sanju on 12 runs. So it will be interesting to see who will win the battle between these two players.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Joshua Little
Yashasvi Jaiswal has impressed every cricket lover with his incredible batting skills in all three formats. In the recently finished Test Match series against England, Jaiswal became the 2nd Indian batsman to score a double hundred in the series. However, during the initial stage of the IPL, he was unable to score runs for the Rajasthan-based franchise. But in the final matches, he got his lost form back by scoring, playing some crucial knocks for the team and helping them to reach into the qualifiers.
After seeing his form, India might give him a chance to open the innings with the Indian captain Rohit Sharma for tomorrow’s game. However, it would not be easy for the Southpaw batter as he will be against Joshua Little, who can trouble Jaiswal with his swing and Pace.
3. Paul Stirling vs Jasprit Bumrah
The third and final battle, which will be interesting to watch out from tomorrow's game, will be between Ireland skipper Paul Stirling and the Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is coming into the series after an impressive performance from the Indian Premier League 17th edition, where he was the leading wicket-taker for the Mumbai-based franchise despite poor performance made by the team.
Meanwhile, Paul Stirling is one of the most experienced batters from the Ireland team, who is known for his aggressive playing style in the cricketing world. However, the Irish skipper doesn’t have a great record against India’s yorker kings, as he has just faced one ball from Bumrah and got dismissed on it in a T20I match.
