3 turning points in the LSG vs MI IPL 2025 match
From a 6-time IPL winner getting 'injured' in the midst of a dry patch to a T20 specialist getting retired out in a heated chase, the LSG vs MI IPL 2025 fixture staged the ultimate thrill. Netizens complained of the recent IPL 2025 fixtures missing the adrenaline rush, so Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants took matters into their hands. LSG were on the lookout for their first victory at home and their second victory of the season. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, hoped to keep their winning streak up, which started in their last fixture against KKR after losing their first two against CSK and GT, respectively. Minute lapses eventually weighed down the impressive turn-ups for the five-time champions as LSG took the last-over thriller by 12 runs at Ekana.

Lucknow Super Giants missed yet another chance for their skipper, Rishabh Pant, to script a redemption in his form. Their vital cog in the season so far, Nicholas Pooran, also fell as MI skipper Hardik Pandya scripted a class act in the opening innings after opting to bowl first. However, LSG received crucial contributions at every stage of the innings, with Mitchell Marsh exploiting the powerplay, Aiden Markram stabilizing the middle, and David Miller firing at the death. Their collective effort pushed the total past the 200-run mark as Lucknow fought back against the fifer by Pandya. The total eventually proved too steep of a hill to climb for MI, who took the game too deep, unable to stage a comeback from the deeper side of the chase.

Put to bat first at home, LSG openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh made the powerplay count. The Australian pick fired 9 fours and 2 sixes to smash a fifty at a strike rate past 200.00. While Markram waded patiently, Marsh's onslaught ensured a healthy rate of run flow as LSG scored 69 in the powerplay without losing any wickets. As Marsh departed at 60 off 31, Markram made sure to extend his stay at the crease amid MI's comeback, scripted by Hardik Pandya. The opener scored 53 off 38 as Nicholas Pooran departed, and Rishabh Pant, yet again, proved of no help in the run-making cause. The stable start by Markram and Marsh put LSG in charge early in the match.
LSG finish with a par score of 203 despite the fifer by MI skipper Hardik Pandya
As Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram started looking unbeatable, MI's young find, Vignesh Puthur, brought the breakthrough, trapping Marsh in a caught-and-bowled dismissal. The breakthrough was a sign for MI captain Hardik Pandya to launch into action. The skipper dismissed Nicholas Pooran at 12 off 6 before he turned into a bigger threat for the visitors. Pandya's next victim marked the set batter Aiden Markram. While Pandya maintained a tight clutch, Ayush Badoni and David Miller stole some crucial boundaries to push the LSG total past 200. The captain returned to dismiss Miller after getting hit for two sixes in the same over. While Pandya recorded an impressive 5/36 figure, Miller's charge at the death made sure LSG finished still in dominance.
Suryakumar Yadav, Naman Dhir fight tenaciously but MI bottle the chase with Hardik Pandya at the crease
A 204-run chase in the current IPL scenario could not be termed undoable. However, MI lost two early wickets as Akash Deep and Shardul Thakur struck in the powerplay. Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton, opening for MI in the absence of Rohit Sharma, departed cheaply. However, the onus then fell on Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir, who brought the chase into MI's hands with impressive stroke play.
Naman struck at a strike rate past 190 to ensure that the required run rate didn't fall too far ahead of MI. Meanwhile, SKY, at the other end, made sure the team lost no more wickets. However, after Dhir fell at 46 off 24, the chase lost pace, with Tilak Varma desperately finding a connection between his bat and the ball. SKY fought valiantly with a 67 off 43-run knock until Abdul Samad completed a scintillating effort to hold him in the deep off a delivery by Avesh Khan.
Skipper Hardik Pandya came in with Tilak batting at 17 off 18 and MI needing 52 in 3.5 overs to win the match. The skipper made it count, hitting a four right off his first ball against Avesh Khan. However, the duo struggled to hit Shardul Thakur in the 18th over, with the pacer giving away only 7 runs in the penultimate over.

The lack of run flow seemingly irked the MI skipper, who, in a desperate attempt to win the match, sent Tilak Varma back to the dugout, retiring the batter out. Mitchell Santner came in as Mumbai still needed 24 in just 7 balls. The last over, by Avesh Khan, started off with a six by Pandya, hinting at a favorable finish for MI after all the drama and desperation. However, Pandya's bat lost connection with the ball, refusing a run to keep the strike to himself. However, the captain could not do much from there as LSG won the match by 12 runs.
