The Gujarat Titans (GT) will be kickstarting their Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) campaign on 25 March, 2025 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Interestingly, both these teams failed to qualify for the playoffs in the previous season of the T20 competition. Gujarat Titans finished at the eighth position in IPL 2024 with 5 wins and 7 losses. On the other hand, Punjab Kings will be eyeing to improve their performance having managed to concede as many as 9 losses and won only 5 games last year. In this blog post, checkout the top five players to watch out for in the GT vs PBKS IPL 2025 match.

Top five contenders to watch out for in the GT vs PBKS IPL 2025 match

1. Shubman Gill

The ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 season is really important assignment for Shubman Gill both as the Gujarat Titans captain and as a batter who is not yet sure about his place in the national T20I side. He ended up scoring a total of 426 runs from 12 games in IPL 2024 at a fine strike-rate of close to 150 that included 2 fifties and 1 hundred. The right-handed GT opener won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 where he managed to smash a mammoth tally of 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of nearly 60. India's ODI vice-captain will be very much high on confidence after the record triumph at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

2. Shreyas Iyer

It was surely quite dramatic and surprising that Shreyas Iyer was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after having led them amazingly well in the IPL 2024 glory triumph. However, the Punjab Kings team management took the brave call and bought the IPL 2024 winning captain at a mammoth price tag of INR 26.75 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has also been announced as the new Punjab Kings captain as they are still searching for their maiden IPL trophy. While talking about his overall IPL career, Iyer has notched up a total of 3127 runs from 115 matches at a strike-rate of close to 130 that includes as many as 21 half-centuries. After a brilliant performance for India in the Champions Trophy 2025 win, he will be aiming to continue his batting exploits in the shorter format as well.

3. Arshdeep Singh

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has become a household name especially after doing really well for India in the shorter format of the game. He played a vital role as India clinched the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy by defeating South Africa in the finals. He finished as the joint leading wicket-taker during the T20I competition with a total of 17 scalps from as many as 8 matches at a brilliant average of 12.65. Arshdeep took a fine tally of 19 wickets in 14 games in IPL 2024 and then the Punjab Kings brought him back at a heavy price of INR 18 Crore in the IPL 2025 auction. Punjab Kings team management will once again be hoping that Arshdeep will take the lead responsibility of the bowling department.

4. Jos Buttler

Without much of doubt, Jos Buttler has been one of the most consistent and explosive overseas batters in the history of the Indian Premier League especially during the last few seasons. Although he scored close to 400 runs in IPL 2024, the English right-handed wicket-keeper batter smashed two remarkable hundreds. Buttler had a breakthrough IPL season in 2023 where he went on to win the Orange Cap, finishing as the leading run-getter with an exceptional total of 863 runs in 17 matches at a smashing strike-rate of close to 150 that included 4 hundreds and as many fifties. Therefore, the Gujarat Titans picked him at a massive price of INR 15.25 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

5. Yuzvendra Chahal

After having picked by the Punjab Kings for a whopping amount of INR 18 Crore in the IPL 2025 auction, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has a big point to prove this season as he will be aiming to make a comeback in the national team as well. He is currently the highest wicket-taker in the IPL history with a total of 205 wickets from 160 games at a fine economy of 7.84. He ended up taking a total of 18 scalps during the previous season of the Indian Premier League 2024 season while playing for the Rajasthan Royals.
