In an electrifying display of power-hitting, Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad etched his name in the franchise's annals by smashing the fastest fifty in its history. The pulsating half-century materialized off a mere 16 balls, propelling his team to a colossal 277/3 against the formidable Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Sharma's blistering knock, a dazzling 63 off 23 deliveries adorned with three boundaries and a spectacular seven sixes, proved instrumental in SRH achieving their highest-ever IPL total. Post-match, the young all-rounder attributed his sensational performance to a conversation with West Indies batting maestro Brian Lara, whose wisdom evidently fueled his brilliance on the field.
With a recent track record of stellar performances, Sharma's prowess was further highlighted by his role as the second-highest scorer in the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Accumulating a formidable 485 runs at a staggering strike rate of 192, he demonstrated his ability to dominate the crease with finesse and power. Despite a somewhat subdued outing in IPL 2023, wherein opportunities to bat higher up the order were scarce, this season has witnessed a remarkable turnaround for Sharma. Elevated to the pivotal No.3 position in the batting lineup, he has seized the opportunity with unwavering determination and showcased his mettle as a formidable force in the tournament.
While talking about his overall numbers, Abhishek Sharma has scored 987 runs from as many as 49 IPL matches at a strike-rate of 142.63. The southpaw all-rounder has smashed a total of five half-centuries.
"I said in the previous interview too, the domestic season gives us a lot of confidence. The message for the batters is simple, go out and express yourself. The plan was to attack, I enjoyed batting with Head, he is one of my favorite batters, and I admire him," said Abhishek Sharma during the post-match presentation.
"He told me to go for it if it was in my zone. I am happy to be getting my chances, no matter what position I am playing. I had a chance to talk to Brian Lara last night and that helped me massively. I would rather bowl more in practice than bat, trying my best with bowling as well," he further added.
