When you rumble through tough times, it's too often than not your friends sitting right by your side in support. IPL 2025 fared frustratingly disappointing for the young Abhishek Sharma until the team returned home for the SRH vs PBKS match. A string of low scores in five matches and discussions erupted if the hard-hitting opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were already a thing of the past. Across the five matches, with the team enduring a string of four straight defeats, Abhishek managed a collective score of 51. However, when the young gun finally found his form, the opener struck a blazing 141 in a single innings alone. Now, the Indian youngster has revealed the factor that aided his run back to form, a connection with his Punjab teammate and close friend, Shubman Gill.
Shubman Gill's bat came to the rescue as Abhishek Sharma toiled through a dry patch ahead of SRH vs PBKS IPL 2025 match
Back in 2024, when Abhishek Sharma earned the Indian cap on the back of a blazing IPL season, the youngster started with a duck in Zimbabwe. In the very next match, Abhishek came through with a century, roaring his arrival at the national front. Following his maiden ton for India, Abhishek revealed that he took the bat of Shubman to defy his luck. Shubman and Abhishek track back to the time when they played the U-19 World Cup together, winning the title. Long-time mates at the Punjab team in domestic cricket, the bond seems real close between the Indian youngsters.
Now, as Abhishek toiled through a rough patch in IPL 2025, Shubman's bat came to his rescue again. Sharma smashed 141 runs off just 55 in the SRH vs PBKS game, where his team picked their second win of the season. The unbelievable knock made Abhishek the highest individual Indian run-scorer in IPL history and the highest individual run-scorer ever for SRH. Back in form, Abhishek, following the match, revealed that the knock came out of Gill's bat. In the SRH vs GT match, Abhishek was dismissed for only 18 as SRH sustained their fourth straight defeat.
Following the match, Shubman Gill gave one of his bats to Abhishek Sharma. Holding a belief that Shubman's bat turns things around for him, Abhishek came confident into the SRH vs PBKS. His belief proved true once again, as the 24-year-old batted his way through several records as a roaring redemption arrived for the SRH opener.
"One more mention I forgot to make. Our last game was against GT, and sabko pata hoga maine kiska bat liya phir se [Everyone might know whose bat I had asked for]. Thanks to Shubman for giving his bat. I had specially written that I wanted to do something for the Orange Army, and I think it was my lucky day as well," Abhishek Sharma said following his record-breaking knock.
