Adam Gilchrist opines about the Australia vs India Test series

Legendary wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist is optimistic that Australia will have the opportunity to demonstrate their dominance on home soil during the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series later this year, when India comes to visit. Australia has not won the BGT since the 2014/15 season, with India regaining the prestigious trophy in 2017 and maintaining a strong hold on it since. India has consistently performed well against Australia, both at home and away, capturing the last two Test series held in Australia. They secured victories with 2-1 margins in the 2018/19 and 2020/21 series. As the series approaches, Gilchrist is keenly aware of the formidable challenge posed by the Indian team, led by captain Rohit Sharma. Sharma and his team are aiming for a historic third consecutive series win against Australia, adding extra anticipation and pressure to the upcoming contest. The series, set to start in November, promises to be a highly competitive and closely-fought battle.

Gilchrist, who has a deep understanding of the game, has cautioned Australian captain Pat Cummins and his squad about India's proven ability to succeed away from home. "Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India know how to go away and win overseas," said former Aussie wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist while speaking to The Times of India. 

"Naturally, I'm going to say Australia, hope they get there. But it's too close to call. It will be a close tussle," the cricketer-turned-commentator added.

Australia is optimistic about their prospects in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, bolstered by their victory over India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final last year in England.
