Australian leg spinner Adam Zampa, who has recently played a key role in their match against England by picking 2-crucial wickets for Jos Buttler and Phil Salt on the scores of 37 and 42 runs, respectively, has recently opined about his belief of not taking part in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was the best decision for his preparation ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.
After winning the match against the arch-rivals England Zampa said, "I made that decision a little while ago to pull out of the IPL, and I thought it was the best thing for me moving forward into this World Cup," Zampa explained. "I was tired, had some niggles, and I'm a family man as well. Sometimes putting them first over work is pretty important."
Going further, the mighty Australian leg spinner also talked about the extra effort that he made while preparing for the marquee event.
"I actually am a bit of a slow starter, and I put in a little bit of extra work. My body feels great, and I did a bit more bowling than I usually would before a tournament like this. Everything just feels nice at the moment," he added.
Talking about the match Australia batted first and posted a target of 201 runs in 20 overs with the help of their star openers David Warner and Travis Head, who made a partnership of 70 runs in the first powerplay with significant contributions from Mitchell Marsh. Later, England's openers, Jos Buttler and Philip Salt, gave their team a strong start with a 73-run partnership. However, England's middle order was unable to take it forward and lost 4 next wickets in the score of 55 runs in 16 overs, which caused them to lose the match by 36 runs. However, Moeen Ali gave some hope to the English team by hitting 3 sixes in Maxwell's over but couldn't take it forward and got caught out on the score of 25 runs.
England will next face Oman on June 13, while Australia will take on Namibia on June 12.
