Senior Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has become the talk of the town after clips from his recent podcast with Shubhankar Mishra have gone viral. During a chat on the podcast, Mishra opined and accepted that he had committed age fraud.
Further in the video, the star leg spinner also admitted that his coach asked him to reduce his age when he was a young player. It came when he first played for India in 2003. He was 22 years old, but after his coach forced him to reduce his age by one year, he was documented as 31 years old.
This shocking revelation came when there was a chat between Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Amit Mishra during a match between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. When Rohit Sharma asked Mishra about his real age. From this, the question was raised in the recent podcast.
Amit Mishra accepted that he has done a one-year discrepancy and his coach has helped him with this. When the host, Shubhankar Mishra asked Amit Mishra about this age fraud he accepted it and did not deny it.
"Let me tell you, I have a one-year discrepancy, and my coach helped with that. I didn't even know about it. The coach called my home and asked for one more year for me. It was quite an emotional story. I was surprised and asked, 'How?' He said, 'From today, you are one year younger; now you have two more years.' I agreed," Mishra said on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast.
In the same podcast, he also said that Virat Kohli is not regarded as a great cricketer among other top cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid as he has changed after becoming famous, however, Rohit Sharma is the same and has not changed.
Amit Mishra has represented Indian cricket team in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 8T20I, where he has picked 76, 64 and 14 wickets getting a five-wickets haul 3 times in his international career.
