Another change for Rohit Sharma in the batting order for the BGT? Bangar suggests

Rohit Sharma, the batter, needs to find a solution to his struggle with the bat. The Indian skipper has held a spot in the middle order, where he started his Test career. However, the transition has not worked well for India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. While KL Rahul is justifying his place in the opening position, Sharma, who gave up his opening spot for Rahul, is continuing his dry run in the format. Now, with two matches remaining in the BGT, India's former batting coach, Sanjay Bangar, has come up with detailed advice for the Indian captain.

"Should bat at No.3": Sanjay Bangar suggests Rohit Sharma ahead of the Boxing Day Test

Sanjay Bangar, the former batting coach of Team India, has advised the Indian captain to spend more time in the middle. Sharma rejoined the team for the second match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy after India won the opening Test under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah. However, three matches into the series, the Perth Test remains India's only victory and the only match where the Indian batters performed well. Since his return, during which he claimed a spot in the middle order, Sharma has managed just 19 runs across three innings at Adelaide and the Gabba. While his decision to hand the opening spot to KL Rahul seems justified, questions still linger about Sharma's performance with the bat, regardless of his batting position.

Now, Bangar has advised Rohit Sharma to bat on the third position in order to find some time in the middle. Bangar emphasized that the key for any batter to regain confidence is time spent in the middle, adding that the team could experiment with sending Rohit in at number 3 if they want to strengthen their batting. He also identified a specific issue with Rohit's technique, suggesting that the opener is arriving late to the shot, leading to mistakes, particularly against fast bowlers.

"That is a mantra for any batter. I feel he can do two things. One, can he come to bat at No. 3 because if we have to strengthen our bowling a little and add a little sharpness, he can definitely change his number," Bangar told.

"Apart from that, prepare yourself a little early. It seems like he is getting slightly late and he is also getting late because we saw his bat not going forward for his favorite pull shot. He generally doesn't miss the pull shot. It's a signal for every batter whether he is playing his best shot or not," he added.

Border Gavaskar Trophy and the change in the batting position is not the start of the struggle for Rohit. The Indian skipper has failed at the top of the order in the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. The 37-year-old has only managed one fifty in his last 13 Test innings and posted just one double-digit score, a paltry 10, in three innings in BGT. Meanwhile, two matches remain in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, next slated to be the Boxing Day Test. The visitors need to win both the fixtures to qualify for the WTC Final if they don't want to depend on Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
