Arshdeep Singh is a young Indian left-arm bowler who has impressed everyone in international cricket with his impeccable bowling skills, which made him pick in the India 15-men squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. But the journey to become an international cricketer of the Indian team, where he faced a lot of hardships during the initial stage of his cricket career. Through this article, we are going to talk about Arshdeep Singh’s cricket career, family, age and records.

Arshdeep Singh was born on 5 February 1999 in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, in a Punjabi Jatt Sikh Orthodox family to Darshan Singh and Baljit Kaur. Singh’s father was posted to Guna as a member of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) where he worked for more than 25 years. However, the family later moved to Kharar near Chandigarh, where his cricketing journey started playing gully cricket with neighbourhood boys before joining Jaswant Rai's cricket academy in Chandigarh in 2015. The Indian fast bowler has an elder brother, Akashdeep Singh, who resides in Brampton and a sister, Gurleen Kaur.

Domestic Career

While growing up, Arshdeep was part of the  Katoch Shield tournament and the under-19 winning team of 2018 ICC Cricket World Cup. In 2018, he played for Punjab's under-23 cricket team in the CK Nayudu Trophy, where he finished the tournament by picking eight wickets and in the match against he took a hat-trick, which helped him on to make his List A debut for Punjab in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 19 September 2018, before making first-class debut against Vidarbha in the 2019–20 Ranji Trophy.

Seeing Arshdeep’s left-arm bowling in domestic cricket, the Indian bowler was picked up by Kings XI Punjab, now known as Punjab Kings. He made his Twenty20 debut for the side on 16 April 2019. In his debut season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he finished as the team's second-highest wicket-taker during the season, making him a future star player.

In November 2019, Arshdeep was named in India's squad for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Later, he was named as one of five net bowlers for India's tour of Sri Lanka.  After a positive case of COVID-19 in the Indian team, he was added to India's main squad for their final two (T20I) matches of the tour

Arshdeep Singh was named in India's T20I squad for their series against South Africa, before picking in the T20I squad for India's two-match series against Ireland.

International Career

After performing well in the domestic matches and in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he was named in India's One Day International (ODI) and T20I squads for their tour of England. He made his T20I debut on 7 July 2022, playing against England at Southampton, taking the final two England wickets and bowling a rare maiden over on debut.

In the five T20I match series against West Indies cricket team, he took seven wickets and on 8 August 2022, was named in India's squad for the 2022 Asia Cup, which made him picked in India's squad for the series against South Africa, where he finished the series by taking five wickets. Later, In September, Arshdeep was named in India's squad for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup, where in the opening game against arch-rivals, he took a wicket on the very first ball of the match, taking 3/32 in his 4 overs. He was India's leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with 10 wickets in six matches, with a bowling average of 15.60 runs per wicket.

Currently, the star Indian bowler has been playing in his 2nd ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where he is opening the bowling attack of the Indian team with Jasprit Bumrah. The left-arm pacer has picked the most wickets from the Indian team till now (12) with an impressive bowling economy of 7. His match-winning performance against United States made him win the 'Player of the Match Award' after taking four wickets, conceding just nine runs in four overs.
