Now, as Australia play England in their respective tournament opener, Alex Carey treated the Lahore crowd to an impossible-looking grab in the air. Winning the toss in the Group B clash, Australia skipper Steve Smith opted to field first against England. Meanwhile, Carey brought an early celebration for his team as he took a screamer to dismiss Phil Salt cheaply.
Australia vs England: Alex Carey treats the Lahore crowd to a one-hand wonder to dismiss Phil Salt
Alex Carey pulled off a breathtaking catch, marking one of the standout moments of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Carey showcased his fielding brilliance at mid-on, pulling off a stunning effort to dismiss Phil Salt in the opening innings of the group stage clash. The moment unfolded in the second over of England’s innings when Salt attempted to loft a delivery by pacer Ben Dwarshuis delivery over mid-on. He timed his shot well and seemed to have cleared the fielder, but Carey’s reflexes and sheer agility turned the tide. Launching himself to his right, he stretched out fully and plucked the ball out of the air, completing an absolute screamer with one hand. His teammates rushed to congratulate him, while social media erupted in admiration for the spectacular take.

Salt’s dismissal provided Australia with an early breakthrough, much needed in the absence of their premier fast bowlers. The Aussies are missing Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood in this tournament, Cummins and Hazlewood sidelined with injuries, while Starc opted out due to personal reasons.
As of the latest update, England were cruising at 189/2 in 29 overs as Australia look desperate to end the partnership between Ben Duckett and Joe Root. Both the batters have cruised past their half-centuries as Smith has tried putting Matthew Short in the attack as well. Salt (10) and Jamie Smith (15 off 13) were the two wickets to fall, both scalped by Ben Dwarshuis, who has stepped up in the absence of Australia’s frontline pacers along with Spencer Johnson and Nathan Ellis.
