It is now time to witness one of the most exciting and oldest cricketing rivalries as Australia gears up to face defending champions England in the 17th game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to begin on 8 June, 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridetown, Barbados. Both these teams will be entering into this match after having witnessed different results unfold in their respective previous outings. Australia managed to register a brilliant 39-run victory over Oman in their opening match of this tournament. On the other hand, England's first game against Scotland ended in a washout. It will be an important match for both these teams in the Group B opening round of this mega event.

Australia won the 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup where they defeated New Zealand in the finals and the tournament was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the 2021 champions failed to qualify even for the semi-finals in the T20 World Cup 2022 held at home. But, the Mitchell Marsh-led team have kickstarted their campaign in this edition of the T20 World Cup with a fine victory over Oman in their first game. Australia will definitely face a hard challenge against England as it is their most difficult game in this opening round of the mega event. Australia will also have the advantage of playing at the same venue. They will be eyeing to continue the winning momentum in this Ashes rivalry.

On the other hand, England are quite fresh coming into this game against arch-rivals Australia as their opening match against Scotland was abandoned due to persistent rain at the very same Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. England came into this 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup on the back of an amazing 2-0 series victory against Pakistan at home. The defending champions have quite balanced squad this season with some explosive batters like Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone, while they also have a number of wicket-taking bowlers in Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Sam Curran. However, they will be hoping to comeback with an improved performance in the bowling department against Australia after they conceded a total of 90 runs in 10 overs against Scotland earlier in this competition.

Pitch Report for AUS vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024 match

The Kensington Oval presents a tantalizing prospect for batsmen in the initial innings, promising a balanced platform for a game of moderate scores. Seamers will relish the opportunity to extract extra bounce from the lively pitch, while spinners can anticipate ample turn as the match progresses. With a statistical edge favoring teams batting first, having clinched victory in 16 out of 26 encounters, winning the toss will likely prompt captains to opt for setting a target rather than chasing. This ground's character suggests a tactical advantage for the side batting first, capitalizing on the early advantage provided by the conditions. The pitch's nature ensures a dynamic contest where adaptability and strategic acumen will be paramount in determining the outcome, offering an enticing prospect for both players and spectators alike.

Predicted Australia Playing XI

The Australian team management will definitely want to bring back their ODI World Cup 2023 and World Test Championship final winning captain Pat Cummins for this important clash against England starting on Saturday. It was all over the cricket news platforms that Cummins was the 12th man in the first game of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Oman. The rest of their playing XI is expected to be the same.

Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh (C), Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins/Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

Predicted England Playing XI

England are very much unlikely to make any changes to their playing 11 from the last match against Scotland. However, they do have some options which they can surely explore. T20 World Cup 2022's Player of the Tournament Sam Curran might be drafted into the side as he can contribute really well both with the bat and ball.

Jos Buttler (C & wk), Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.
