South Africa has officially announced their Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, a series that was initially in jeopardy due to the sensitive political situation in Bangladesh. However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has recently given the green light for the series to proceed. Notably, left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy has been recalled to the squad, bringing with him three Test caps and the experience of having taken 247 First-class wickets and scored nearly 5,000 runs. Muthusamy will join a spin trio alongside Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt, providing South Africa with strong options in the spin department.
The first Test is set to take place in Dhaka on October 21, where fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is expected to spearhead the pace attack. He will be supported by Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder, adding depth to the bowling lineup. South Africa's head coach, Shukri Conrad, expressed confidence in the squad's versatility and depth, highlighting their readiness for the challenges ahead. This series presents a crucial opportunity for South Africa to solidify their standing in Test cricket while navigating the complexities of playing in Bangladesh. As the Proteas prepare for this important matchup, all eyes will be on their performance in conditions that demand adaptability and skill.
“I want to firstly thank both boards, Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for ensuring the series goes ahead. Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour. They've become a formidable side at home and we have to be prepared for the challenge that awaits us. We have therefore chosen a squad for the conditions we are expecting to greet us when we get there,” said Shukri Conrad in a recent interview.
“We have three frontline spinners and all of them have the ability to step up at any time they are needed. This is a great chance for someone like Senuran, who has potential to make a mark with both bat and ball. We are really looking forward to seeing what he can offer,” he added.
