Prithvi Shaw who was India’s under-19 World Cup-winning captain was not part of Delhi Capitals team in yesterday’s game against Rajasthan Royals. After winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals decided to bowl first on the flat pitch of Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi making 2 changes in the playing 11 in the place of Prithvi Shaw and Lizard Williamson, the home team picked Afghanistan all-rounder Gulabdin Naib and Ishant Sharma in the playing 11 to win the game and get 2 points on the board.

Delhi dropped the opening batter Prithvi Shaw in this game as he was unable to perform in the last few games and after the inclusion of Jake-Fraser McGurk, the home team can go with a combination of Abhishek Porel and McGurk as the opening batters with  Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant, Tristan Stubbs, and Gulbadin Naib to follow.

Shaw last played a knock of  66 runs against Mumbai Indians and 43 against Chennai Super Kings, whereas 32 against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024. However, after this knock, he did not even manage to cross 16.

Delhi’s dropping Shaw and going with a combination of Porel and Jake turned out to be a good decision as both of these batters gave a solid start to the Capitals in the power play by scoring 65 and 50 runs.

However, Delhi was unable to capitalize on the start given by the Australian opener as they got their 4 wickets out within 90 runs on the score of 150 runs in 14 overs thanks to Tristan Stubbs and Gulbadin Naib, who made a partnership of 45 runs for the 6th wicket-taking DC to a respectable total.

Delhi won the match by 20 runs in the second inning while defending 220 runs in 20 overs due to of exceptional bowling by Kuldeep Yadav, who picked 2 key wickets for RR in his 4 overs of conceding only 25 runs.

With this win, Delhi has got a much-needed 2 points, having a total of 12 points on the table after playing 12 games so far in the tournament. Delhi will play their next game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 7th at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
