BCCI is ready to set a precedent against players asking for unnecessary breaks

India’s recent performances in Test cricket have fallen short of the high expectations set by their previous successes. To address these challenges, the All India Men's Senior Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, convened at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai on Saturday, January 11. From the Indian team setup, both captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir were present to discuss the ongoing concerns and to provide insights into the team's performance.

Alongside them were BCCI President Roger Binny and Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia, who were also involved in the deliberations. The meeting was focused on assessing the team’s performance and strategizing for the future. With critical decisions to be made, particularly concerning player selections and leadership roles, this review meeting was seen as a pivotal moment for the team’s immediate direction. "There was a detailed discussion on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy performance and what all went wrong and the course-correction required. But do not expect a hurried decision from the new dispensation of BCCI," stated a source privy to developments.

According to the report, the selection committee has made a firm decision that no player in the Indian squad will be allowed to selectively skip bilateral assignments moving forward. This decision aims to ensure that players remain committed to all series and contribute to the team’s overall objectives. Additionally, discussions were held regarding senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, whose future in the team has been a topic of recent debate due to their fluctuating form.

In the wake of these discussions, it was decided that any player wishing to miss a game would be required to provide genuine medical reasons for their absence.
