Prior to the ongoing Boxing Day Test, Nitish Kumar Reddy had been the highest run-getter for India thrice in an innings in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, he was still at number eight in the batting order in the second innings on Saturday. Well! Nothing to take away from Ravindra Jadeja, who has made a name for himself as a batter in Tests, but the kind of innings Nitish Rana has played today, he has certainly fixed his spot in the top six.

With just one wicket left in the innings, Reddy was still three runs short of his century. Bumrah was the ninth one down as he edged one to the first slip. Pressure was building up and Nitish mistimed one but managed to get a double. Finally, on the third delivery of the 114th over, he smashed Scott Boland over mid-on for a cracking boundary and what followed was a heroic celebration. An innings that will be remembered for the ages, Nitish Rana took India out of trouble and they can now think of making a comeback.

Nitish Rana kneeled down, planted his bat and kept his helmet on top to showcase a wonderful act of celebration. The camera also spotted his father, who found it hard to stop himself from tears rolling in his eyes. The video clip has now been circulating all over the internet. You can watch it here:

Meanwhile, India are still trailing by 116 runs as they have managed to score 358 for 9 in response to Australia’s 474 in the first innings. They would hope that Siraj and Reddy score as many runs as possible to reduce the deficit further.

Nitish Kumar Reddy came into the crease when India were in a serious trouble at 191 for 6. Soon, Jadeja had also departed for 17 off 51. However, what followed was an outstanding second-highest eighth wicket partnership for India in Tests in Australia.

The duo added 127 runs for the eighth wicket and brought India back into the game. Unfortunately, Washington Sundar departed off Nathan Lyon after playing an outstanding knock of 50 runs off 162 deliveries.
