The big news coming in from the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 is that star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is once again not part of the India playing XI for the 2nd Test against Australia taking place at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. While coming to Australia on the back of dismal 0-3 series whitewash suffered against New Zealand at home, the Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian cricket team defied the critics and registered a spectacular 295-run victory in the first Test match. The visiting Indian side have secured a 1-0 lead in the AUS vs IND five-match Test series.

Border Gavaskar Trophy: Why is Ravindra Jadeja not playing Australia vs India 2nd Test?

During the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that Ravindra Jadeja has once again been left out of the India playing 11 as the senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is back in the side for this 2nd Test match against Australia. While considering the stats from the recent few years, Jadeja has always been India's go-to spin bowling option in the overseas conditions ahead of Ashwin primarily because of the former's sensational abilities with the bat. Also, the left-arm spinner was coming into this India vs Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy on the back of taking an exceptional 10-wicket match haul in the third and final Test match against Australia.

Many of the cricket fans as well as the experts were taken by surprise when India decided to play off-spinner Washington Sundar in the IND vs AUS Perth Test match ahead of senior spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. It is also being said that India are playing off-spinners, Sundar in the first Test match and Ashwin in the second Test match to counter Australia's star left-hand batting duo of Usman Khawaja and Travis Head.

"We are going to bat first. Looks a good pitch, looks a bit dry at the moment, enough grass covering as well. It'll have some carry for the fast bowlers. As the game goes on, it'll get better to bat on. There will be something in it for everyone. It's going to be a good game. I have been here for two weeks now. Had a good hit in the nets, played a game as well, ready to go now. (Mood in the dressing room) It is pretty good, pretty vibrant. We've played a really good Test match in Perth, it was superb to watch from the outside. What the boys did was superb. It's just about carrying that into this Test match. It's a long series, we just want to focus on how we can get the results in our favour, we'll try and do most things right in this game. I am happy, the fast bowlers are happy as well (with the break). The breaks are welcome. Momentum is also important. We want to carry from where we left. We have made 3 changes. I am back, Gill is back. Ashwin is back. I am batting in the middle order which is different, but I am ready for the challenge," said Indian captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.

Ravindra Jadeja has contributed amazingly well in the last few years both with the bat and ball in the longest format of the game, both at home and away conditions. Therefore, it looked very much surprising when he was left out of the India playing XI for the IND vs AUS 1st Test. While talking about Ravindra Jadeja stats in Test cricket, the southpaw has smashed a total of 3235 runs from as many as 77 Test matches at a decent average of 35.16 that includes 21 fifties and 4 centuries. The left-arm spinner has also taken as many as 319 wickets in the longer format of the game that comprises of 15 five-wicket hauls. Barring Ashwin, the duo of skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are also back in the side for the Australia vs India 2nd Test for Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel.
