India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 with a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa, marking their second triumph in the shortest format of cricket. Initially on the brink of defeat, India mounted a stunning comeback in the final five overs, spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh. Their heroic efforts turned the tide, securing a memorable win in a fiercely contested final. Former cricketer Brett Lee extended his congratulations to the Indian team, praising their exemplary performance throughout the tournament. Held across the USA and West Indies, the mega event showcased India's dominance as they remained undefeated under the astute leadership of Rohit Sharma. Lee commended India for their strategic acumen and flawless execution on the field, highlighting their strength and resilience.

Rohit Sharma, leading from the front, emerged as a pivotal figure in India's successful campaign. His captaincy received special acclaim from Lee, who noted Sharma's ability to inspire and guide the team under pressure. The Men in Blue, guided by Sharma's leadership, displayed a perfect blend of skill and strategy, which proved decisive in their path to glory.

Overall, India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 not only underscored their cricketing prowess but also cemented their status as a formidable force in international cricket. With contributions from key players and astute leadership, India's triumph will be remembered as a testament to their resilience and determination on the global stage.

“Big, big congratulations to India. Firstly, it was really good to see them and the emotion on the faces of those cricketers. Virat and Rohit have moved on from the game. There were players from the Australian cricket team who also hung up their boots. So, it was a swansong for a number of players from different countries around the world,” former Aussie pacer Brett Lee told the Times of India.

“One thing I will say is that India played the perfect style of cricket in the T20 World Cup. They looked like a strong side, to be very honest. Massive congratulations to Rohit Sharma and the Indian team. He led from the front in the tournament,” he added.

Following Rohit Sharma's retirement from T20Is, Hardik Pandya emerges as the frontrunner to lead India in the shortest format. Pandya's leadership credentials were highlighted when he guided Gujarat Titans to an IPL victory in 2022 and led them to the final in 2023. While reports suggest he may captain India against Sri Lanka, selectors have yet to confirm this pending the squad announcement. However, Pandya is expected to skip the upcoming ODI series due to personal reasons. Should senior players opt for a break, either Shubman Gill or KL Rahul are potential candidates to lead the team in their absence. Pandya's potential elevation to captaincy signifies a new era for Indian cricket, drawing upon his recent successes and leadership qualities demonstrated in domestic and franchise cricket.
