Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has backed Gautam Gambhir's appointment as the new team India head coach. Following Rahul Dravid's highly successful tenure, Gautam Gambhir will face a challenging task in his first-ever role as head coach of any professional team. While it will be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming days, Brett Lee is confident that his former IPL captain will be able to make an impact for the T20 World Champions straightaway.
"He's (Gautam Gambhir) done a terrific job every time he's had an opportunity. The Indian Premier League title with KKR is the best example. He's always been there, always at the top of his game. He finds a way to unite his players and graft his team together," Brett Lee said.
According to the legendary Australian pacer who played under Gautam Gambhir's captaincy in the IPL, the veteran India opener's performance as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders is the best example of his leadership capabilities. Speaking further, Brett Lee emphasized that Gautam Gambhir always finds a way to unify the players. He added that the newly-appointed head coach's aggression and winning attitude will benefit the Indian team. Brett Lee congratulated Dravid on completing his coaching stint successfully.
"He builds a solid structure. He has been a terrific player, and his aggression and winning attitude will help India. He has shone internationally as a player. India is in safe hands with Gautam Gambhir as coach. Congratulations to Rahul for finishing on a high," Brett Lee concluded.
