Brian Lara Backs Yashasvi Jaiswal To Break All His Records

Yashasvi Jaiswal's meteoric rise in Test cricket has caught the attention of none other than the legendary Brian Lara, who sees in him the potential to surpass his own records in the longest format of the game. Despite having played just nine Test matches since his debut against West Indies in 2023, Jaiswal has already amassed an impressive 1028 runs, including two double-centuries. Lara, speaking highly of the young cricketer, revealed a close bond between them, forged during a late-night conversation before Jaiswal's international debut. During IPL 2023, the two talked cricket until the early hours of the morning, laying the groundwork for a mentorship that would blossom. While Lara didn't divulge specifics of their discussion, he emphasized Jaiswal's immense potential and the unique connection they share.

The former cricketing maestro highlighted Jaiswal's humility and eagerness to learn, traits that have endeared him to Lara since their initial meeting. “If I feel my records are threatened, Jaiswal has got a very good chance to do so. He has got capabilities, couple of double hundreds already. He is that good. The only thing I can reveal about that (conversation) is I think he is an outstanding young cricketer. What I like about him is that he is very humble and willing to work. The first time I met him (last year), I immediately found myself attached to him,” former West Indies batsman Brian Lara was quoted as saying by Rediff.

“After the game (SRH vs RR), I went to the hotel with a friend of mine from the Caribbean who knew Jos Buttler. It was midnight and Jaiswal found me. I promise you I left the hotel at 4 in the morning. He just wanted to hear more and more and more. That is one of his amazing traits. His ability to want to learn as much as possible. Our conversations are about trying to make him a better cricketer,” he added.
