Pakistan is gearing up to host the upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19. This tournament marks a historic occasion for Pakistan, as it will be the first time in nearly 29 years that the country will host an ICC event. The anticipation surrounding Pakistan’s campaign is high, with fans and experts alike eager to see how the team performs on home soil in this prestigious 50-over tournament. Amid the buzz surrounding Pakistan's preparations, former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri recently shared his thoughts on the team's prospects. Shastri praised Pakistan's abundant pool of talent, noting their depth in the squad and the potential for several players to step up and make an impact in the Champions Trophy.

He also acknowledged Pakistan’s strong performances in the 50-over format over the past several months, highlighting their ability to compete with some of the best teams in the world. Shastri’s comments further underscore the excitement around Pakistan's campaign, as they will look to make the most of their home advantage and put in a strong showing in the tournament. With a mix of experienced players and rising stars, the team will be eager to build on their recent form and take on the challenge of competing against the world’s best teams on home soil.

"I think Pakistan is the kind of side that, with the exposure they’ve had in the last six to eight months in white-ball cricket, have put up some really strong performances, especially in South Africa. They've missed Ayub at the top, and he's a crucial player. But, Pakistan has enough depth to be dangerous, especially in home conditions," shared Shastri while speaking on The ICC Review.

"I would say they should qualify for the semi-finals, and from there, it's anyone’s game. Pakistan is still very, very dangerous, and if they qualify, they'll be doubly more dangerous," he added.

Former Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, believes that Pakistan could become "incredibly dangerous" in the upcoming Champions Trophy if their star players, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, rise to the occasion. Both players have been pivotal in Pakistan’s recent successes, and Ponting’s comments reflect the importance of their performances for Pakistan's prospects in the tournament. The year 2024 has been exceptional for Pakistan cricket, especially in the 50-over format. They recorded a series of impressive victories, winning three consecutive away series against Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. These wins have boosted the team’s confidence and highlighted their ability to compete at the highest level.

Currently, Pakistan is competing in the Tri-Nation Series, where they are facing off against New Zealand and South Africa. This series provides them with another opportunity to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the Champions Trophy. With a strong mix of experienced players and emerging talent, Pakistan is poised to challenge some of the world’s top teams. If Babar and Rizwan continue their good form, Pakistan could be a formidable force in the tournament, as both players are crucial to the team’s success in the 50-over format.
