After MS Dhoni’s retirement, it was difficult to say which Indian captain would help the Indian team to end the drought of an ICC trophy as the last ICC trophy, which was won by the Indian team was in the year 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni after defeating England in the champions trophy. However, the Men in Blue reached into the semifinals and final stage of the ICC event on several occasions but was unable to lift the trophy.

But there was a player, who never lost hope and kept believing in his team and kept backing him after every failure to end India’s long wait of 17 years for an ICC World Cup Trophy. Yes! We are talking about Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has recently announced his retirement from T20 internationals after India’s historic win over Proteas in the finals of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 by 7 runs at Kingstowne Stadium in Barbados.

Rohit Sharma is the only Indian player who has been playing in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 since its inception, he has represented the Indian team in the shorter format of the game for 17 long years, where he has managed to score 4231 runs in 159 games with an average of 32.05, having 5 centuries and 52 half-centuries to his name. Through this article, we will be taking a look at Rohit Sharma's best knocks in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup international in his long 17 years of long career.

92 vs Australia ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024

We have a recent innings against Australia, which Rohit played in the last Super 8 match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which made the Indian team qualify in the Semi-finals of the marquee tournament. This Knock is special because it came in a must-win game at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, which helped the Men in Blue to win the World Cup 2024.

After winning the toss, Australia opted to bowl first, so that they could chase the target in the second innings, just like they did in last year's final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But this time the Indian captain was standing like a pillar at the crease after India lost their first wicket on the score of 6 runs in the first over of the innings. Despite the loss of Virat's wicket the Hitman kept attacking Australian bowlers in the first 6 overs of the powerplay and gave a solid start to the Indian section.

Rohit smashed 29 runs in the over of Australian star bowler Mitchell Starc, showing his intent and class on a big stage. Before getting out in the 12th over, Rohit did his job by scoring 92 runs in 41 balls hitting 7 boundaries and 8 sixes all over the ground with a strike rate of 224. He played a selfless innings despite knowing that he could reach to his century, but he wanted to show the intent of the Indian team after losing in the finals last year.

Middle-order batters capitalize on the start given by the Indian captain and played a free hand in the death overs of the innings, resulting in Men in Blue scoring 205 runs in 20 overs which was later defended by the Indian bowlers by 24 runs. The Indian captain was awarded as Player of the Match award for his incredible knock against Australia, 3which helped the Indian team to qualify for the Semi-finals of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Sharma finished the tournament with being the second-highest scorer and leading run-scorer from the Indian team with 257 runs in 8 games with an average of 36.

Rohit's contribution to the Indian national cricket team in the shorter format of the game is speechless whether it's as a captain or as a batter, it will be remembered for a long time in international cricket.
