Ravichandran Ashwin recently reflected on some of his cherished memories at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, ahead of the first Test between India and Bangladesh. The Tamil Nadu off-spinner has had the privilege of playing four Test matches at his home ground, and he expressed his deep connection to the venue. Among the many memorable encounters, Ashwin highlighted the epic clash against England that took place after the Covid-19 break. He described that match as particularly special, not only for its competitive intensity but also for the atmosphere it created. The match showcased Ashwin’s skills and was pivotal in demonstrating the resilience of the Indian team during a challenging period. Playing in front of a home crowd added to the experience, as the passionate fans rallied behind their players, creating an electric atmosphere in the stadium. Ashwin's ability to perform well in Chennai has solidified his reputation as a formidable spinner, and he cherishes the opportunity to represent India on home soil.

In the ongoing India vs Bangladesh two-match Test series, Ashwin's memories of past performances serve as motivation, fueling his desire to excel once again at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He is eager to contribute to his team's success and create new memories in front of his home crowd.

"That game against England was special. It was the first time the crowd was back, and the reception I received was beyond my expectations. To have the match turn out the way it did for me was truly special. Chennai has always been a significant ground for me, filled with incredible memories, both old and new," said India's senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in a recent interview.

Ravichandran Ashwin recently celebrated a significant milestone by playing his 100th Test match against England earlier this year. With an impressive tally of 516 wickets, the 38-year-old off-spinner ranks second only to Anil Kumble, who holds the record with 619 wickets as India’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. Ashwin reflected on the dedication and hard work required to sustain his level of performance, particularly as he continues to age. He emphasized that maintaining fitness and honing skills are crucial for bowlers who aim to compete at the highest level over an extended period.

As the first Test against Bangladesh approaches, Ashwin noted that the match will be played on a red-soil pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He expressed confidence that the bowlers would benefit from good bounce on this surface, which is known for its favorable conditions for spin bowling. Ashwin praised the stadium for consistently providing excellent Test match pitches, making it an ideal venue for players to showcase their skills. With a wealth of experience and a strong understanding of the game, Ashwin is eager to make an impact in the upcoming series. His insights into the pitch conditions, combined with his past achievements, set the stage for an exciting match as he aims to further cement his legacy in Indian cricket.

"Cricket is a game I adore, and I've enjoyed every moment on the field. Age is just a number, but the work you put in over the years takes its toll. You need to work harder to find that edge," Ashwin added.

"It's always been a good Test match pitch. Most games here, barring one against England, have seen huge scores. The game against Australia felt like 500 versus 500. We're playing on a red soil pitch again, so there'll be bounce and value for the bowlers," he noted.

Ravichandran Ashwin emphasized that the Bangladesh cricket team is steadily improving and should no longer be considered underdogs. He pointed to their recent 2-0 series victory against Pakistan as a testament to their growth and competitiveness on the international stage. Ashwin acknowledged that this achievement showcases the strides Bangladesh has made in Test cricket, highlighting their ability to challenge established teams.

As India prepares to face Bangladesh in the upcoming Test series, Ashwin’s comments reflect the respect that the Indian team holds for their opponents. He believes that Bangladesh’s recent performances indicate a shift in their status within the cricketing world. This evolving dynamic adds an extra layer of intrigue to the series, as India will need to be at their best to secure victories against a side that has proven its capabilities.
