Corbin Bosch apologises as PSL hands him a one-year ban
A legal notice by PCB to South African cricketer Corbin Bosch has been followed by a one-year ban for the player in PSL. The 30-year-old was signed by Peshawar Zalmi in the diamond category at the PSL drafts earlier this year. However, an injury absence in the Mumbai Indians camp for IPL 2025 made way for Bosch to enter the bigger league. As MI prompted, Bosch joined IPL as an injury replacement for his compatriot Lizaad Williams. The PCB, meanwhile, retorted sternly to the move pulled by the SA pick, handing him a legal notice as he abandoned his franchise ahead of the upcoming season.
Corbin Bosch banned for one year in the PSL
Corbin Bosch, after pulling out from his contract with Peshawar Zalmi for PSL 2025, explained that the move reflected the exposure that IPL would bring for him. A part of the MI camp for the SA20 league, Corbin termed it a better strategic move to join IPL 2025 over PSL, while clarifying that it was not meant to disrespect the PSL. However, PCB served a legal notice to the South African for the snub. For the unversed, for the first time since its inception in 2016, the PSL is set to collide with IPL 2025. The 18th edition of the IPL kicked off on March 22 and is scheduled to wrap up on May 25. PSL, meanwhile, is slated to start from April 11 with the conclusion set for May 18.
While Corbin Bosch, in his earlier statement, explained the reason behind opting out of PSL, the Pakistan Cricket Board has served him with a repercussion. In their latest move, just ahead of the start of the season, they announced that Bosch has been banned from the T20 League for a year. The SA cricketer, meanwhile, has already joined IPL 2025 as a part of the Mumbai Indians camp. The likes of Kane Williamson, David Warner, and Daryl Mitchell, who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction, are set to join the Pakistan Super League for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Corbin Bosch has followed his earlier statement with an apology to the Pakistani T20 League and his franchise there. While he has already explained the reason behind opting IPL over PSL, the cricketer this time acknowledged the effect that his action had on the league and the Peshawar Zalmi squad. The 30-year-old remains hopeful for successful collaboration in the PSL in future.
"To the loyal fans of Peshawar Zalmi, I am truly sorry for letting you down. I take full responsibility for my actions, and accept the consequences, including the penalty fine and the one-year ban from the PSL. This has been a hard lesson, but I am committed to learning from this experience, and hope to return to the PSL in the future with renewed dedication and the trust of the fans," Bosch's statement said.
