CSK IPL 2025 Full Player List: Chennai Super Kings Squad; Players Bought at IPL Auction 2025

Chennai Super Kings had their priorities set ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The five-time champions expressed their intention to retain their former captain, MS Dhoni, by hook or by crook for the next season. However, the retention depended on Dhoni's decision regarding whether the 43-year-old wicketkeeper-batter wanted to play in IPL 2025. Once Dhoni clarified his stance, Chennai had its work cut out. The IPL governing council eased Chennai's plan to include Dhoni in their retention list by reviving the 'uncapped player' criteria. Consequently, when the retentions for IPL 2025 were announced, MS Dhoni was predictably listed as an uncapped player, with CSK retaining him for 4 crore. CSK also retained four more players in the squad, with their current skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, taking the top salary bracket.

As Dhoni confirmed his decision to play the next IPL season, the rest of the CSK retentions were easy to gauge. Chennai retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, who succeeded Dhoni as the skipper of the five-time champions in IPL 2024, was CSK's first-choice retention. The squad, furthermore, retained the hero of their IPL 2023 title victory, Ravindra Jadeja for 18 crore, same as Gaikwad. Moreover, Sri Lankan seamer, Matheesha Pathirana earned a spot as the team splurged 13 crore on Baby Malinga. All-rounder Shivam Dube, moreover, claimed the fourth slab as Chennai retained the spin-hitter for 12 crore. Finally, with Dhoni retained for 4 crore, Chennai spent 65 crore out of their purse. With a tital of 120 crore allotted to each franchise for IPL 2025 mega auction, CSK will enter the auction with 55 crore in their purse. 

Going into the IPL mega auction, Chennai will have one RTM card. The team is likely to go behind either Devon Conway or Rachin Ravindra with their right-to-match card. Conway has been an integral part of the team as the opener along with Gaikwad. Ravindra entered the CSK den in IPL 2024 after the team bagged the Kiwi all-rounder for 1.50 crore in the mini auction. Now, with 55 crore left in their purse, CSK will need to be mindful about the spent amount and build the rest of their squad around the retained core.
