In what has come as a massive development, Chennai Super Kings have roped in South African batter Dewald Brewis  for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2025. Notably, Brewis had set his base price at INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction but found no takers. CSK have now signed him for INR 2.2 crore and the decision might have come as a result of their ongoing struggles in the middle order. The young South African batter has replaced pacer Gurjapneet Singh, who has been ruled out due to injury. CSK managed to sign Brevis as there was one overseas slot left in their roster.

For the unversed, Dewald Brewis  has played for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. He arrived on the scene in emphatic fashion and drew comparisons with legendary AB de Villiers. The 21-year-old made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in the 2022 edition and was retained next season. However, fierce competition for the slots in the batting unit meant Brewis was given limited opportunities. He played 10 matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL but is an integral part of the MI franchise in MLC and SA20.

Brewis played a pivotal role in helping MI Cape Town win the SA20 title, earlier this year. Striking at 184, Brewis amassed 291 runs in 12 matches at an average of 48.50. With Ruturaj Gaikwad being ruled out of the season and the likes of Conway and Ravindra not in the best form, Dewald Brewis could give strength and stability to the top order.

CSK are sitting at the bottom of IPL 2025 Points Table

It hasn’t been a happy season for Chennai Super Kings and its fans. They have played seven games and could win only two, thus far. However, things seem to be getting better since the change in captaincy. With MS Dhoni back as captain, Chennai Super Kings have won two out of their last three games. The 43-year-old, once again, exhibited his finishing ability in the last game against LSG, chasing down a 167-run target in 19.3 overs alongside Shivam Dube.

The addition of Dewald Brewis  and Ayush Mhatre has certainly given some strength to their batting, which has looked completely out of sorts. Chennai Super Kings are slated to play their next game against MI on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium.
