DC remain cautious despite an unbeaten streak in IPL 2025
Among the ten teams in IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals remain the sole team cruising unbeaten this far in the season. The team, now led by Indian all-rounder Axar Patel, is on the lookout for their maiden IPL title. With a major overhaul ahead of the 18th edition, it seems like all the parts have come together seamlessly for the team. Charged by an unbeaten 93-run knock from KL Rahul, Delhi Capitals picked their fourth straight win of the season. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost their second game at home, as the RCB vs DC clash wrapped up in a 6-wicket win for DC. The team now heads home for the DC vs MI clash, scheduled for April 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
DC mentor wants the players to keep their eyes on the bigger picture
The team playing in IPL 2025 seems like a redeemed Delhi Capitals, charging ahead with no shadows of being designated as the underdogs. After releasing Rishabh Pant, DC handed their captaincy mantle to their trusted pick, Axar Patel. Meanwhile, the side onboarded former LSG skipper KL Rahul in the IPL 2025 mega auction for 14 crore. While Rahul has not assumed any leadership post in the squad, the wicketkeeper-batter has put up a scintillating run of form in the season so far. After opening their campaign with a narrow win in the LSG vs DC match, the Axar Patel-led team then claimed commanding victories over Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings before meeting RCB at their den.
Delhi Capitals put up a sublime performance in the opening innings against the home team to wrap up the RCB total at 163. While they faced a threat in the chase, as the opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk were removed early, KL Rahul brought both the stability and the firepower that the chase needed. Batting in the middle, at his home ground, KL Rahul knocked an unbeaten 93 to see off the chase for his team with 6 wickets remaining. DC thus remained unbeaten in IPL 2025, earning the second spot at the IPL 2025 points table, below Gujarat Titans.
The performance is clearly impressive, with the likes of KL Rahul and the young Vipraj Nigam emerging with match-winning contributions on different occasions. While the team looks forward to hosting five-time champions Mumbai Indians at home in Delhi, the DC mentor Kevin Pietersen talked about their four-match winning streak. The former English player asked his players to keep their eyes on the target, comparing the IPL to a marathon rather than a sprint. In his tweet celebrating the win in the RCB vs DC match, Pietersen gave a special shoutout to spin all-rounder Vipraj Nigam, who dismissed Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya at the Chinnaswamy.
“Quick reminder - the IPL is a marathon and not a sprint,” Pietersen wrote on X. “Whilst it’s so good that we’re playing like we are, all of us know that the biggest games are in May! It really is so nice to be winning for our @DelhiCapitals supporters though. Special mention to our young superstar, Vippi! Some young man he is," he added.
