Despite the looming threat of rain in Kolkata, IPL 2025 opened with a grand ceremony at Eden Gardens. After the opening ceremony wrapped up, the action began as the KKR vs RCB fixture got underway. However, the 18th edition of the league witnessed a glitch right in the opening moments of the game. Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss against the defending champions, with their new skipper, Rajat Patidar, opting to bowl first. However, as Josh Hazlewood kicked off the opening over of IPL 2025, Star Sports mistakenly credited Virat Kohli on the scoreboard. The moment quickly went viral on the internet, with people humorously hailing a certain "right-arm quick bowler."

With new captains at the helm, RCB and KKR kicked off the 18th edition of the IPL at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rajat Patidar opted to bowl first against the defending champions as he began his captaincy tenure for the fan-favorite franchise. Josh Hazlewood opened the attack for RCB, picking up a wicket in the very first over. However, what piqued the interest of the fans was the scoreboard. The digital board displayed Virat Kohli as the bowler in the opening over. The screengrab shared by users on social media platforms quickly went viral, much to the amusement of netizens.

As for the match, Hazlewood created a dismissal chance in the first over as Quinton de Kock lofted one in the air. However, Suyash Sharma spilled the catch, dashing hopes for a quick wicket. Unperturbed by the lapse, Hazlewood claimed the KKR opener on the very next delivery, as an inside edge by de Kock ended up in the gloves of wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma.
