Former West Indies All-rounder Dwayne Bravo came up with the support of upcoming South Africa fast bowling sensation Kwena Maphaka after his horrific start in the Debut match of the 2024 IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he conceded 28 runs in his first 2 overs spell against Australia left-handed batsman Travis Head and Abhishek Sensational Sharma, which caused Mumbai Indians to loss the match by 31 runs after Hyderabad Scored a mammoth total of 277 runs on the scoreboard. Maphaka conceded 66 runs in his 4 overs spell with a poor economy of 16.50.
Kwena Maphaka has been picked in the place of star Sri Lankan bowler Dilshan Madhushanka after he was declared injured for the IPL 2024. The 5-time title winner Mumbai Indians have gone with Maphaka, who was also the highest wicket-taker in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2024, which helped the proteas to reach to the semi-final. However, Maphaka found support from former West Indies All-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who left a support message for the 17-year-old gun to not get disappointed by this game.
"Keep your head up Champ! Kwena Maphaka I’m sure you will definitely bounce back and don’t let this one off game make you start to doubt yourself, it’s a great challenge for you and you will only get better as the tournament goes on!" Bravo posted on Instagram.
Maphaka is the only player now who doesn't have any international experience but still, he has been picked up in the playing 11 based on his talent and skills. However, the young South African sensation has to go a long way in the ongoing Indian Premier League, where we could see him learning from his mistakes under the guidance of Jasprit Bumrah and Malinga.
Mumbai Indians will be playing their next game against Rajasthan Royals on 1st April at their home ground Wankhede Stadium, and will be looking to win their 1st game of the ongoing season.
