The 6-time title winners of the ODI World Cups have started their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign with a win against Oman by defeating them by 39 runs in the opening game at Barbados while defending a target of 164 runs in 20 overs and picking 6 wickets in 14 overs of Oman while chasing a target of 164 runs with the help of Mitchell Starc and Nathon Ellis, where they picked 2 wickets each with all-round performance by Marcus Stoinis, who played a crucial knock of 67 runs in 37 balls and picked 3 wickets by conceding just 19 runs in 3 his 3 overs of spell during the second innings.
Mathew Haydan, who was the leading run-scorer in the inaugural edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 praised the former Indian Captain MS Dhoni for his humble nature and contribution to the Indian cricket team. Hayden was part of Chennai Super Kings franchise from 2008-10 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. He even said that the legendary Indian captain can captain the Australian side from the dressing room.
Going further, he said that the World Cup-winning captain put the team above himself. Praising Mahi's humble nature, the former Australia opener stated that he doesn’t mind in collecting bags and throwing balls to create an impact from the dressing room.
"Dhoni is exactly what I was saying before. He can easily sit in an Australian dressing room and easily captain it because he believes that he is not bigger than anyone else. He'll collect bags, he'll throw cricket balls. He's just a very humble individual. And he works hard at the team and not on promoting MS Dhoni," Hayden said in a conversation with Sports Vikatan.
"MS Dhoni's X-factor is that he doesn't boast about his achievements. He has the ability to bring people together without any ego or self-promotion. This quality sets him apart."
After winning the opening game against Oman, the Men in Yellow will be playing against England at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 8 in match 16.
