Pakistan faced a shocking defeat from Bangladesh in a 2-match Test series at their home. With this defeat, they are almost out from the World Test Championship after back-to-back in their last match, they have reached 8th position on WTC standing just 1 place above West Indies who are at the bottom of the table. After losing the series, the Bangladesh cricket team have become talk of the town, where former Pakistani cricketers are criticising their team for poor performance as It was Pakistan’s sixth defeat in their last 10 Tests at home and this was also the first time Bangladesh have beaten their neighbours in a Test and series.
Talking about this former Pakistan team test captain Javed Miandad said
“It is hurting that our cricket has come to this stage. Bangladesh deserve credit for their disciplined performances. But the way our batting has collapsed in this series is a bad sign,” former Test captain Javed Miandad
In the second Test, Bangladesh’s batsmen took control of the match in their second innings after Pakistan left out pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi and rested Naseem Shah. Pakistan had Bangladesh on the ropes at 26 for 6 in their first innings, but a brilliant partnership between centurion Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz turned the tide and saved their team. Miandad believes that the infighting within the Pakistan board has sapped the players' confidence.
“I wouldn’t just blame the players because whatever has happened in the board (PCB) in the last one and half years and the captaincy and management changes have affected the team,” he said.
Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed concern over the team's record, noting that losing three series and failing to win at home in nine Tests is troubling.
“Home series were always considered our best chance of beating the best sides in the past. But for this to happen the batsmen need to get runs,” he said.
With the latest setback, Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the World Test Championship final now seem to be all but over.
