Four star Indian cricketers who have underperformed in IPL 2025
The ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) is still in its opening stages and majority of the teams have played just 2-3 matches. There have been a number of noticeable performances so far in this cash-rich T20 league by young talented cricketers. On the other hand, many of the big stars have failed to contribute with the desired performances. With the Impact Player rule coming into existence, it has definitely given the players a little advantage especially provided the batters with a license to play an attacking game right from the word go. In this blog post, we will take a look at four star Indian cricketers who have underperformed so far in IPL 2025.
Top five Indian cricketers who haven't been at their best in IPL 2025
1. Rohit Sharma
There were definitely a lot of expectations from Rohit Sharma during this Indian Premier League 2025 season as he came into this competition after playing a phenomenal match-winning innings in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against New Zealand. However, in an anti-climax start, 13, 8 and 0 are Rohit Sharma's scores in the last three innings during the ongoing tournament while opening the batting for the Mumbai Indians. He has not been in the best of forms so far in this T20 competition which is a big worry for the Mumbai Indians team management. During the IPL 2024 season, Rohit Sharma managed to score a total of 417 runs from as many as 14 matches at a brilliant strike-rate of 150. It will be very much crucial for Rohit to return back into form as runs from the top are always vital for any team.
2. Rishabh Pant
After being picked as the most expensive player in the IPL history, things have not worked out in an ideal manner for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant. The left-handed wicket-keeper batter has managed to score just 17 runs from as many as 3 innings during the ongoing T20 competition and this has put some serious pressure on the rest of the LSG batting line-up. After coming out from a life-threatening car accident, the swashbuckling left-hander went on to smash an impressive total of 446 runs from 13 games in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. While talking about Rishabh Pant stats in IPL history, the wicket-keeper batter has scored 3284 runs from 111 matches at a fine strike-rate of close to 150 that includes 18 fifties and 1 century. Thus, both the LSG team management and Pant will be eyeing to make a strong comeback in the remainder of the season.
3. MS Dhoni
Not many expected former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni to be amongst the runs on a consistent basis in the IPL 2025 season, however, the fans were very much confident that the world's best finisher still has the abilities to finish games when the situation is gettable. During the last run-chase against Rajasthan Royals, CSK required 54 runs off 25 balls, but the pair of Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja failed to take their team over the finishing line. In the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at home, the veteran wicket-keeper batter received a lot of flak for coming out to bat at the No.9 position. MS Dhoni has scored as many as 46 runs from 3 IPL 2025 innings and he will definitely be aiming to contribute more when the opportunity arrives in future.
4. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Young left-handed opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal came into the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League with a lot of reputation especially after finishing as India's leading run-getter in the last Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Down Under. However, the southpaw has managed to score just 34 runs from 3 games this year for the Rajasthan Royals that includes two single digit scores. Jaiswal had a breakthrough season in IPL 2023 where he composed an exceptional total of 625 runs from 14 matches at an excellent strike-rate of close to 165 that included five half-centuries and one hundred. This staggering performance helped him earn his maiden call-up into the national team. It is very much likely that the Indian opener will be back in form during the upcoming matches of IPL 2025 for the Rajasthan Royals.
