GT vs PBKS IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer, Shashank power Punjab Kings to a dominating finish
Newly appointed Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer has started off his journey with yet another franchise on a staggering note. In their opening clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) season, the Punjab Kings are locking horns with the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After leading the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) towards their third title triumph in IPL 2024, Iyer is now with the Punjab Kings and he has smashed a phenomenal half-century innings in his debut game. On the back of some incredible hitting from Shashank Singh in the last few overs has helped the Punjab Kings finish with a mammoth total of 243 for 5 in their quota of 20 overs.
GT vs PBKS IPL 2025: Iyer's 97 and Shashank's terrific finish helps Punjab Kings take the early advantage
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Punjab Kings got off to a fine start as the opening pair of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh added 28 runs in the first three overs. However, despite losing the wicket of Prabhsimran in the third over, the quick run-flow did not stop a bit as the in-form skipper Shreyas Iyer came at the crease and started striking hard from the word go. While making his IPL debut for the Punjab Kings, Priyansh scored a quick-fire knock of 47 runs off only 23 deliveries that included 7 fours and 2 sixes before being dismissed by Rashid Khan.
The Punjab Kings did lose their way a bit midway through the innings as the trio of Azmatullah Omarzai, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis failed to contribute much in the middle-order. However, Shreyas continued his amazing batting form just as the way he was batting in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. After being bought by the Punjab Kings at a massive price of INR 26.75 Crore, he repaid the faith in an impressive manner.
While wickets kept tumbling at one end, Shreyas kept smashing the opposition bowlers in all parts of the ground quite comfortably. Towards the end, Shashank Singh joined hands with the captain and he too looked in a fantastic rhythm. Shashank notched up a blistering unbeaten knock of 44 runs off just 16 balls that included 6 fours and 2 sixes that helped the Punjab Kings post a massive 243 runs on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Shreyas Iyer missed out on a well-deserved ton as he was left stranded on 97 not out that consisted of 9 sixes and 5 fours.
Shrey-Shank!
