Much has been talked about the retention picks of the IPL teams for the upcoming season. The board has set October 31 as the last date for the ten franchises to confirm their retention ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, Gujarat Titans have surprisingly remained eerily quiet about their plans for the next season. The 2022 champions witnessed significant drama ahead of the start of IPL 2024. Hardik Pandya, the captain who led the new franchise to the title in their maiden season, left Gujarat to return to Mumbai. The captaincy onus then fell on the young Shubman Gill as GT suffered the absence of pacer Mohammed Shami in addition to Pandya’s departure. Now, as GT heads to IPL 2025, the franchise has kept their strategy and priorities under wraps, until now.
Gujarat Titans drop big hints on Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan ahead of IPL 2025 retention deadline
Gujarat Titans, three seasons into the league, have already claimed a trophy to their name. However, the team stands without the captain who led them to ultimate glory in their debut season. With Shami still in the process of recovering from his ankle injury, Gujarat's retention picks are a major source of speculation. However, the franchise, with a social media post, seems to have revealed their plans for retention ahead of IPL 2025.
In a post shared on social media, Gujarat Titans featured photos of Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan. Shubman, the current skipper of the side, and Rashid Khan were both first-choice players, along with Hardik Pandya, drafted by GT ahead of IPL 2022. While Pandya has exited the scene, Gill and Rashid continue to be key assets for Gujarat. In IPL 2023, Gill smashed 4 centuries to lead the team to the final for the second consecutive time. While GT lost the nail-biting clash to CSK, Gill emerged as the highest scorer of the season. Rashid Khan, meanwhile, has been a consistent performer for the team.

With the retention stakes higher this time, it will be interesting to see how many slots Gujarat will use ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Other retention options for Gujarat include Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan, who scored an impressive century against CSK last season. Moreover, the franchise is likely to consider the likes of Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad and batter Rahul Tewatia. For IPL 2025, a team can retain up to 5 players, with the option to pick two uncapped players for the squad.
