Watch: Harmanpreet Kaur loses cool ahead of Women's Asia Cup 2024

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India is all set to play their opening match in the Women's Asia Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan on Friday, July 19. Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, the Indian skipper attended the pre-tournament press conference, where a reporter irked her with a controversial question. The Indian women's team captain gave a sharp response to a journalist who questioned the lack of coverage for women's cricket in India. Harmanpreet Kaur stated that it's none of my business ahead of the highly anticipated clash against Pakistan in the Women's Asia Cup T20 2024. Harmanpreet is aiming to lead the Women in Blue to their 8th Asia Cup title this month. During the press conference, she clearly expressed India's ambitions for the tournament, which she described as 'very important' for her team.

Harmanpreet Kaur loses her cool while responding to the journalist at the press conference

During the pre-tournament press conference, Harmanpreet Kaur answered questions from reporters. A reporter asked for her opinion on why fewer journalists attended press conferences during India's recent tour of Bangladesh. The Indian captain responded that it was not her concern but rather the media's responsibility to cover the team.

"There have been concerns about the importance of women's cricket, especially after the Bangladesh tour. Less journalists appeared at your press conferences. What's your opinion on this?" the reporter asked.

"Well, that's none of my business. You guys have to come and cover us," Harmanpreet Kaur replied with a smile.

Ahead of the Women's Asia Cup T20 clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, Harmanpreet Kaur highlighted that while matches against Pakistan are particularly exciting, the team respects every opponent and aims to maintain its high standards of play. India and Pakistan have met 14 times in T20Is, with India winning 11 of those matches. India has also secured victory in 17 out of 20 matches in the Women's Asia Cup T20. Team India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, aims to start their campaign with a win against Pakistan in their first Group A match.

"We always enjoy playing against Pakistan, but each and every team is important. Whenever we go and play, we always want to play good cricket, and we will follow the same method," Kaur said at the press conference. This tournament is very important for all of us because we give equal respect to this tournament and want to improve at the Asian as well as at the world level," Harmanpreet Kaur added.

The Indian women's cricket team recently competed in a multi-format series against South Africa. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, secured a 3-0 victory in the one-off Test and the three-match ODI series against the South African women's cricket team. However, the home team managed to draw the three-match T20I series 1-1. India has won the Women's Asia Cup title seven times, making them the most successful team. Bangladesh is the only other team to secure the title, which triumphed in the 2018 edition. The Women in Blue have won three out of four times in the T20 Asia Cup and secured all four editions in the 50-over format.
