With Pakistan and South Africa still battling for a spot, New Zealand have already secured their place in the tri-series final. Meanwhile, Pakistan and South Africa are currently facing off as they try to set up a final against the Kiwis in Pakistan. As the thrilling action unfolds, tensions flared in the ODI clash when Matthew Breetzke and Shaheen Shah Afridi engaged in a heated confrontation during the opening innings of the match.

Shaheen Afridi, Matthew Breetzke bring the heat to the Pakistan vs South Africa match

Mattew Breetzke, who announced his arrival in the ODIs with a 150-run ton in the match against South Africa got on Afridi's nerves in the latest match. Opting to bat first against the hosts, Africa dominated the Pakistan pace attack as captain Temba Bavuma smashed 82 runs. Complimenting his skipper to perfection, Breetzke scored yet another captivating knock as he notched 83 runs. The knock, as impressive for the stroke play, became more interesting with Breetzke enganging in a tussle with Pakistan's primary seamer, Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The tension between the two flared up twice in the same over, prompting the on-field umpire to step in. The first incident occurred on the second-last ball of the 28th over when Shaheen and Breetzke were seen exchanging words. The fast bowler appeared visibly irritated, prompting Mohammad Rizwan, Temba Bavuma, and the umpire to intervene in an attempt to diffuse the situation. Reports suggest Shaheen was displeased with Breetzke taking an early start for a run down the middle of the pitch.

However, the drama didn’t end there. After the final ball of the over, Shaheen aggressively charged toward Breetzke, visibly infuriated. Replays indicated that as Breetzke attempted a single by pushing a short delivery toward deep square leg, he inadvertently made contact with the bowler while running past him. The collision left Shaheen furious, with Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah quickly stepping in, shoving Breetzke away before the umpire intervened again to restore order. Amid the tension, Africa rushed off to a momentous 352-run score which Pakistan need to chase in order to play New Zealand in the series final.
