The Indian team have kickstarted their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on a fantastic note having registered a pretty convincing 6-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their opening encounter hosted at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. India's senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami picked up a sensational five-wicket haul in the first innings to restrict the opposition, after which vice-captain Shubman Gill showed his class with a brilliant unbeaten century. With this emphatic win, India have occupied the second position in the Group A points table while New Zealand stays at the top spot.

India vs Bangladesh: Towhid Hridoy rescues Bangla Tigers

The second match of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 did not started off on the best of notes for Bangladesh as they succumbed to 35 for 5 as India's new ball bowlers looked in a fine form. Many would have thought that this Bangladesh will definitely surrender against the mighty Indian bowling attack. However, the duo of Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali had other plans as they slowly started to do the repair work. The duo composed a fabulous record-breaking stand of 154 runs for the sixth wicket. Jaker smashed an impressive knock of 68 runs, but from the other end, Hridoy showed great temperament scoring an exceptional century to help Bangladesh reach a competitive total of 228 runs on a tricky Dubai wicket.

Sensational Shami picks up another five-wicket haul in ICC tournaments

It was quiet evident that senior pacer Mohammed Shami did not looked in the best of rhythms during the home series against England. Due to the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, India's pace bowling responsibilities rest of Shami's shoulders in this 50-overs tournament and senior fast bowler delivered in style during the first game itself. The right-arm speedster picked up a superb five-wicket haul, having conceded 53 runs in his quota of 10 overs. The Dubai pitch did not have much of assistance for the fast bowlers, but still Mohammed Shami managed to pick two vital scalps in the first 10 overs.

Watch: Shubman Gill hundred lights up Dubai International Cricket Stadium

India's vice-captain Shubman Gill came into this Champions Trophy 2025 in an amazing form having scored a hundred in his last 50-overs match. Indian captain Rohit Sharma once again got his team off to a steady start as he smashed 41 runs off 36 balls, putting up 69 runs for the opening wicket partnership. While chasing a total of 229 runs on a slowish Dubai track, India kept on losing wicket at regular intervals, but Shubman kept his calm from the other hand and notched up a phenomenal unbeaten knock of 101 runs off 129 balls that included 9 fours and 2 sixes. Gill was also named the Player of the Match for his incredible match-winning efforts.
