ICC Champions Trophy 2025: BCCI announces massive cash prize for the Indian team
In a big news update, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a massive cash prize of INR 58 Crore for the Indian cricket team to reward their victory in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025 hosted in Pakistan and Dubai. This huge cash reward by the BCCI will give recognition to players, coaching and support staff and members of the Men's Selection Committee for their contributions in India's famous triumph. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue finished unbeaten during the entire ICC ODI tournament, having won all of their five matches including the grand finale against New Zealand played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Team India started off their campaign in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on a brilliant note with an impressive six-wicket victory over Bangladesh and then the Rohit Sharma-led side defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by a convincing margin of 6 wickets in their second fixture. The Men in Blue continued their winning momentum as they defeated New Zealand in their last group stage match. India were looking as a very dangerous unit going into the semi-finals especially after the inclusion of mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the slow Dubai conditions and then they got the better of Australia in the semi-finals. India managed to win their third ICC Champions Trophy title by registering an emphatic four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the finals.
Roger Binny, President, BCCI: “Winning back-to-back ICC titles is special and this reward recognizes Team India’s dedication and excellence on the global stage. The cash award is a recognition of the hard work that everyone puts in behind the scenes. This was also our second ICC Trophy in 2025, following the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup triumph and it highlights the strong cricketing ecosystem in place in our country.”
Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary, BCCI: “The BCCI is proud to honour the players and support staff with this well-deserved reward. Their dominance in world cricket is a result of years of hard work and strategic execution. This victory has justified India’s top ranking in white-ball cricket, and we are sure the team will continue to excel in the years to come. The dedication and commitment shown by the players have set a new benchmark, and we are confident that Indian cricket will keep raising the bar on the global stage.”
With this staggering victory, the Indian team have managed to win as many as two ICC tournament in a gap of around 10 months as they also won the T20 World Cup 2024 in June, a tournament which was hosted in the West Indies and USA. After MS Dhoni winning a total of three ICC titles (2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy), Rohit Sharma has now become India's second most successful captain. Rohit was also named the Player of the Match in the Champions Trophy 2025 final for his amazing half-century innings. New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra was announced the Player of the Tournament after he finished as the leading run-getter in the 50-overs competition that included a couple of centuries as well.
