South Africa have absolutely blown away England in their Group B last league-stage clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 hosted at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Proteas displayed a stunning effort both in the batting as well as bowling departments to claim a phenomenal 7-wicket victory and they have now finished at the top position in the Group B. After a clinical win, South Africa will play their crucial semi-final encounter against one of India or New Zealand.

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: South Africa claim semis spot with a clinical victory

After winning the toss and electing to bat first in the final Group B match of this ICC Champions Trophy 2025, England once again got off to a poor start, having lost as many as three wickets for just 37 runs. The duo of Harry Brook and Joe Root then came down to bail their team out of trouble with a partnership of 62 runs. However, Proteas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder bowled a superb delivery to get rid of the in-form Root, which further triggered another England batting collapse as they lost as many as 6 wickets for 76 runs. England were bundled out for 179 runs in 38.2 overs. For South Africa, the duo of Marco Jansen and Mulder picked three wickets each.

During the run-chase, South Africa suffered an early blow as Tristan Stubbs was dismissed for a five-ball duck. On the other hand, Ryan Rickelton too lost his wicket before scoring 27 runs off 25 balls. The pair of Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen then joined hands for a fantastic partnership of 127 runs. While playing his first game in this 50-overs competition, Klaasen played an impressive knock of 64 runs off 56 balls that included 11 boundaries.

Van der Dussen remained unbeaten till the end, having notched up an exceptional innings of 72 runs off 87 deliveries that consisted of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Eventually, South Africa went on to chase the target in just 29.1 overs to bring up an emphatic win.
