India started the second India vs Bangladesh Test in Kanpur on a positive note as they recorded a massive 280-run win over the guests in the first Test. However, the positivity didn’t last long in Kanpur, where rain played spoilsport for almost the entirety of the match. The first day witnessed some action, where Bangladesh scored 107 for 3 before bad light put an early end to Day 1. That same day, it rained cats and dogs in Kanpur, which continued on the second day, eventually leading to the day being called off without any balls being bowled. As the third day took over, the abysmal facilities at the Green Park Stadium stood naked for everyone to take note of. Sunday witnessed no rain in Kanpur. However, with a lack of an effective drainage system at the venue, the day was called off due to a wet outfield.

Things came under control on Day 4 as India vs Bangladesh resumed action after a halt of 2 days over the weekend. To ensure that the match bore a result, Team India needed to press the accelerator on their performance. Taking the cue, Indian players smashed many records on Day 4 as they swiftly set the tone for a potential win in Kanpur. Bumrah struck early on Monday, claiming Mushfiqur in a clean bowled dismissal in the first session. Siraj, Ashwin, and Jadeja followed suit as Bangladesh was bundled out for 233 shortly after lunch.

Ravindra Jadeja completes 300 Test wickets in the second India vs Bangladesh clash

The session after lunch witnessed Ravindra Jadeja scripting history in the whites. As Jadeja trapped Khaled Ahmed in a caught and bowled dismissal, the all-rounder completed 300 Test wickets. With his 300th dismissal, Jadeja became the seventh Indian player to attain the figures in the true format of the game. Moreover, the 17428 balls taken by him to complete 300 wickets is the second quickest behind R Ashwin (15636).

Adding feathers to his already adorned hat, Jadeja also became the the second-fastest player to achieve 300 wickets and 3000 runs in Test cricket. He reached this milestone in his 74th match, just two matches behind legendary England all-rounder Ian Botham, who accomplished it in 72 Tests. Completing 300 Test wickets on Sunday at the Green Park Stadium, Jadeja became only the 11th all-rounder to scalp 300 wickets and notch 3000 runs. With respect to Indian cricket, the spinner is only the third to achieve the feat after Kapil Dev and R Ashwin.

India vs Bangladesh Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma set new batting records

As team India picked the bat for the first time in the India vs Bangladesh second Test on Day 4, the batters came well-acquainted with their task. Opening the innings for India, skipper Rohit Sharma along with Yashasvi Jaiswal showed a T20I-esque intent. Shedding the norms of traditional Test cricket, Jaiswal and Sharma smashed the Bangladesh bowler all around the Green Park Stadium. In a charged up batting display, the Indian opening duo broke the record of fastest fifty scored in Test cricket.

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal notched up 50 runs in just 2.6 overs, making team India the only team to smash a half-century in the first three overs of a Test innings.  They surpassed England's record from July, when England had reached fifty runs in just 4.2 overs against West Indies in Nottingham.
Rohit Sharma departed quickly after India touched the 50-run mark in the third over. However, Jaiswal ensured to keep up the strike rate as Shubman Gill came to bat. While Gill started in his trademark patient style, Jaiswal’s intent shined bright. Subsequently, India knitted 100 runs in only 10.1 overs, now registered as the fastest by any team in the format. This performance broke India's previous record of reaching 100 runs in 12.2 overs against West Indies last year.

While the team witnessed Gill’s departure and the dismissal of Rishabh Pant, the rate of run scoring continued in a consistent pattern. In the same innings, India shattered the records of scoring the fastest 150, 200, and 250. India touched the 150-run mark in 18.2 overs, topping up the previous set record of 21.1. Moreover, the team with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul at the helm collected 200 runs in just 24.2 overs before registering 250 in 30.1 overs. Thus, the 250-run stand by India is now the fastest any team has scored double ton in Test cricket.

Lastly, India’s batting innings on Monday wrapped up with another notable record where a remarkable total of 437 runs were scored. The score is the second-highest run tally for a single day's play in India. The record for the most runs in a day belongs to the second day of the India vs Sri Lanka Test held at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in 2009, where 470 runs were accumulated.

As KL Rahul recorded a well-paced half-century on Monday in Kanpur, Rohit Sharma declared the Indian innings at the score of 289. India had lost 9 wickets by then with only Mohammed Siraj left to bat. With just the last day for the second India vs Bangladesh clash to conclude, India has reduced the guests to 26 runs at the loss of two wickets in the second innings. The Test, if it ends in a clear result on Tuesday, will be a remarkable feat for India in itself.
