India vs England: Why is Varun Chakravarthy not playing IND vs ENG 3rd ODI? Check India playing XI
In a massive breaking news development, Varun Chakravarthy is not playing the India vs England third and final ODI match being hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Team India have already sealed the three-match ODI series in their favour after a brilliant 4-wicket victory against England in the second ODI match. The third ODI match will be the last competitive 50-overs game both for India and England before the all-important ICC Champions Trophy 2024.
Why is Varun Chakravarthy not playing today's India vs England 3rd ODI?
After losing yet another toss and being asked to bat first, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed that leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy misses out from the India playing 11 for the 3rd ODI against England on Wednesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have also released an official update that the spinner was not available for selection due to a sore right calf. Earlier in this IND vs ENG ODI series, Chakravarthy made his ODI debut during the last game after a staggering run in the five-match T20I series. He finished with figures of 1 for 54 while completing his quota of 10 overs. Varun managed to take as many as 14 wickets from 5 T20I matches against England at an exceptional average of 9.86.
In Varun Chakravarthy's absence, left-arm legspinner Kuldeep Yadav makes his return into the India playing XI after being rested for the second ODI game against England. Kuldeep picked up a single wicket in the first ODI against England having conceded 53 runs from 9.4 overs.
"I wanted to bat first and put runs on the board because we bowled first in the last two games. It was important for us to get a win in the last game. The fielders portrayed themselves well in the last two games, a lot of young blood. We want to continue to do well in the field. (On Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy) They are pretty new in their careers so we want to keep the pressure away from them, let them do their own and they have got a lot of potential. We have made some changes - Jadeja and Shami have been rested, unfortunately Varun has a sore calf. So, Washi, Kuldeep and Arshdeep come into the side," stated Indian captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
