After Pakistan's horrific defeat in their opening game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup against co-host USA in super over yesterday at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas. Every cricket fan wants to know whether the Men in Green will be able to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the 9th edition of the marquee event after looking at the 2009 title winners' performance, where their team is going through the worst form from the past 1 months facing several upsets in the shorts format of the game from weak teams, before heading to the main event. Despite being one of the favourite teams to win the ongoing competition, the Shaheens are unable to perform as per their name in international cricket especially when it comes to the 20-overs format. If we look at the last 2 series of the Men in Green before entering the main event, they were not up to the mark where they lost the opening game of the 3-match T20Is series against Ireland and later lost the 4-match T20Is series against England by 2-0.
However, Pakistan showed their dominance in the world by winning the 2nd ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2009 after slipping off in the final of the inaugural edition against India. Although the journey for the Pakistan team is going to be more difficult after losing the game against USA as now they will be playing their next game against one of the best teams in the world on a pitch which has been criticised by fans for its;’s unpredictable bounce and slow outfield of the field making difficult for batsman to score runs.
The Mega Clash
The stage is all set for the much-anticipated game between India and Pakistan, which will be played after 2 days at the newly-built New York Stadium in New York in match number 19th of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. It will be the second game for both teams after India won against Ireland and Pakistan facing a horrific defeat against the co-hosts USA in the super over. It will be interesting to see how the 2009 champions play against the Indian team on June 9th as it will be a must-win game for the Men in Green to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the tournament as the only 2 teams from 4 groups will be heading to the Super 8 stage of the tournament and Babar and Co. are at the number 3 position on the points table.
These 2 teams' matches are considered as some of the most exciting matches in the cricket world due to a big cricketing rivalry between these 2 nations for a long time. It will be the first time these 2 Asian teams will clash against each other since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Talking about this, Mega Clash. Let’s find out how Pakistan can reach the Super 8 stage and turn the tables in the tournament.
1. By Winning all of their upcoming games:
Pakistan have played just 1 match so far in the tournament, which they lost in the Super Overs while chasing a score of 19 runs in 6 balls against USA. However, they are still left with 3 matches which they are going to play against India, Ireland and Canada, respectively. So, if Pakistan wins all three matches, they can easily make it into the Super 8 stage.
2. Can still qualify after losing against India:
Babar and Co. can still, qualify for the Super 8 stage after losing the game against India. However, they need to win the 2 left matches by a big margin and depend on other teams to lose their respective games.
Talking about the position in Group A of the points table, Pakistan are sitting at number 3 after playing 1 game so far in the tournament, having 0 points. Whereas, co-hosts USA and India are in the 1st and 2nd position after getting 4 and 2 points, respectively. However, Canada and Ireland haven't opened their campaign yet and are in 4th and 5th position after losing the 1-1 game each.
