India's squad for the Sri Lanka series has been out, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli making their return to the team after a memorable ICC tournament last month, where they announced their retirement from the shorter format after winning the T20 World Cup by defeating Proteas in the finals by 7 runs. Among them, India's previous head coach, Rahul Dravid, has also ended his tenure for the Indian team on a high note. In his place, BCCI has gone with former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach for the team, will be seen leading the Indian team in the upcoming years, starting from the Sri Lanka tour, where the Indian team will be playing 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is from, 27th July to 7 August 2024.
Looking at the above things, yesterday the BCCI announced the squad for the Sri Lanka tour where they have made several surprise changes in the team with Suryakumar Yadav assigned the role as the captain of the Indian cricket team in T20Is and ignoring players like Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Hardik Pandya in ODI format. Through this article, we will name 3 players who have been ignored by team management irrespective of performing well in their last games.
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
The Indian team did not pick Ruturaj Gaikwad despite performing well in the last series against Zimbabwe, where he finished the tournament with 3 highest run scorer for Men in Blue after the Indian captain Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.
Ruturaj Gaikwad is among the list of players who have been seen performing well for a long time whether it's as the captain of Chennai Super Kings or as a middle-order batsman in the last series he has proved himself at every stage. Gaikwad scored 133 runs in 4 games against Zimbabwe series with an average of 66, having 1 half-centuries to his name on a strike rate of 150 plus.
2. Ravindra Jadeja
The Indian team have not gone with their one of the best all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja, in the series against Sri Lanka, who can contribute with bat and bowl for the team, having impeccable skill as a fielder. With this, it is visible that Men in Blue wants to give chances to youngsters. However, Jadeja has remained a crucial part of the team for a long time and dropping him can result in a loss as his experience matters to the team, where he can seen building a strong partnership with Tailerndars.
3. Sanju Samson
If there is a player, who has not been given that chance despite having a lot of potential and talent it is Kerala-born batter Sanju Samson, who was part of World Cup-winning team in the concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup. However, he did not get any chance to play for the team. But he was later picked in the Zimbabwe series, where he scored a match-winning knock in the last match when the Indian team were 3 wickets down on the score of 40 runs he took the team to a respectable total of 167 runs, helping the Indian team to win the match by 42 runs.
