India enjoyed a dominating return to the shorter format of the game as the hosts thrashed England 4-1 in the five-match T20I series. However, not all fared well for the team, as some of the prospects failed to impress with their performances. While the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy captured the scene with blistering knocks and spells across the five T20Is, skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson failed to find their form. Samson's performance reopened the debate about the batter being inconsistent, as he managed just 51 runs in the five matches collectively. To worsen his woes, the opener injured his index finger in the final match of the India vs England series.

Sanju Samson reportedly ruled out of competitive cricket till IPL 2025

Opening for India in the final India vs England T20I, Samson appeared to be finally firing up as he opened with a six. Tackling the short balls thrown at him impressively initially, Samson hit two sixes until a beamer by Jofra Archer hit him on the index finger. The batter sought on-field assistance as his finger reportedly started bleeding. However, he continued his knock, even hitting another six after the injury. His knock concluded shortly after, as Mark Wood trapped him for another dismissal with a short ball. As India's turn to field came, Dhruv Jurel came out as the wicketkeeper, with Samson tending to his finger injury.

Now, the latest update about Samson's injury has revealed that the batter has fractured the affected finger due to the blow. A report suggests that the Kerala player will miss the Ranji Trophy quarter-final between Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir due to the fracture. The information further explained that Sanju has already returned home and will report to the NCA to commence his rehab for the injury. Not named in the India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, Samson's return is now anticipated to materialize in IPL 2025.

"Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So, there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (vs J&K) in Pune from February 8-12," a source informed. "In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals," the source added.
