Not to question the ability of Pakistan to handle an ICC event, but fumbles are almost anticipated at events planned in the nation. Playing true to the anticipation, the Pakistan Cricket Board became the target of widespread ridicule in the opening moments of the Australia vs England clash. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore geared up for its first game of the ICC Champions Trophy as Australia and England took the ground for their campaign openers. However, the management at the venue faltered in its responsibility of ensuring smooth operations right before the match when England and Australia players lined up for their respective national anthems.

Australia vs England: Crowd stunned as Indian National Anthem plays at Gaddafi Stadium

Days before the start of the ICC Champions Trophy, Pakistan faced massive scrutiny for excluding the Indian flag from the venues for the championship. One of the eight participants, India is playing all its fixtures in Dubai as per the hybrid model after citing safety concerns for its players. However, as the host of the ICC event, Pakistan was expected to showcase all eight flags. From that to now playing the Indian national anthem at one of their venues, it seems like Pakistan has come a long way, just four matches into the Champions Trophy.

The incident transpired ahead of the Australia vs England clash at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. After playing the national anthem of England, the management was supposed to play the Australian one next. However, before the Australian tune came along, the Indian national anthem was momentarily played in Lahore. As the Australian players lined up for their anthem, both they and the crowd were left stunned when, instead of Australia’s, the Indian national anthem began playing. While cameras zoomed in on the Australian flag, the words "Bhagya Vidhaata" echoed through the stadium for a few seconds before the audio was abruptly cut off.

The internet is having a field day, ripping apart the management of PCB management during the tournament. The home team, meanwhile, is preparing to face its arch-rivals on Sunday, where the Indian national anthem will be played rightfully. The third clash in Group B is scheduled in Dubai, which will host all of India’s games in the Champions Trophy. India is coming off a six-wicket victory in its tournament opener against Bangladesh, while Pakistan lost its bout against New Zealand by 60 runs in Karachi. To keep its semi-final hopes alive, Pakistan must win its match against India at any cost.
