Star Indian allrounder Hardik Pandya's captaincy for Mumbai Indians is under scrutiny with criticism and booing from fans. Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary hints that Rohit Sharma could take over leadership due to MI's winless run in IPL 2024. Since taking over as captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), Hardik Pandya has been under constant scrutiny. This IPL season has been particularly challenging for him, with hostile crowds at stadiums booing the MI skipper. Questions have been raised about his poor on-field decisions, and the criticism against him is intensifying. However, the allrounder is not affected much by the negative feedback. In addition, Mumbai Indians have not won any matches this season. Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary feels that MI captaincy may be handed back to the Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Manoj Tiwary hints at the possibility of Rohit Sharma taking over MI captaincy
Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary believes that MI captaincy could be given back to Rohit Sharma. When asked about the transfer of captaincy from Rohit to Hardik, Tiwari explained that the franchise and owners initiated it. Manoj Tiwari suggested that it may be a sign that Hardik Pandya is under pressure if he is not bowling despite having bowled in the first two matches. In both innings of these matches, there was swing on offer, and Tiwari believes that the reception Pandya received may have contributed to this pressure.
"I want to say something big. I have this feeling that during this break, Rohit Sharma could be given back the captaincy from Hardik Pandya. It's pretty big when you change a captain who has won you five titles. And now that they haven't won a single game and the captaincy also looks jaded. Mistakes are happening," Manoj Tiwary said in a recent IPL show.
If something similar occurs, Hardik Pandya won't be the first. Previously in 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was appointed captain of CSK prior to the season. However, the team lost six out of the eight matches they played. Jadeja then stepped down as captain, and Dhoni was appointed captain of CSK again. As per an official statement, Jadeja had decided to resign in order to focus and concentrate more on his game.
After losing three consecutive matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya said they will continue fighting in the IPL 2024 season. In MI's previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Hardik scored the highest for Mumbai with 34 off 21 balls. Hardik Pandya took to his official Twitter account and said that the Mumbai-based franchise will not give up in the ongoing season of IPL.
If there's one thing you should know about this team, we never give up. We'll keep fighting, we'll keep going. pic.twitter.com/ClcPnkP0wZ
