Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis was on the receiving end of another blow on Sunday after the match as he was fined for maintaining a slow over rate during RCB's heartbreaking one-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It was the team's first over-rate offence of the ongoing IPL 2024 season, while Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran was penalised 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Punjab's stand-in captain Sam Curran was fined for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which refers to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision." In an official release shared by the IPL, BCCI confirmed that Curran admitted to the offence and even accepted the match referee's sanction.

Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran Fined For Code Of Conduct Breaches

After two exciting games on Super Sunday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis and Punjab Kings stand-in skipper Sam Curran have been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during their heartbreaking one-run loss against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. It was the team's first over-rate offence of the ongoing IPL 2024 season, while Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran was penalised 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

Punjab's stand-in captain Sam Curran was fined for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which refers to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision." In an official release shared by the IPL, BCCI confirmed that Sam Curran admitted to the offence and even accepted the match referee's sanction. It is worth noting that article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct includes "(a) excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire's decision; (b) an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; (c) shaking the head; (d) pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out LBW.

Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru has struggled in the IPL 2024 season. RCB have only managed to win one game and has lost the remaining seven games. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table, and their IPL 2024 campaign is all but over. On the other hand, Punjab Kings are most likely to face a similar fate as RCB. In the absence of Indian veteran Shikhar Dhawan, led by stand-in captain Sam Curran, the Punjab Kings have only registered two wins and have lost six games. They are currently in ninth place in the points table, with four points just above RCB. While RCB are most likely out of the IPL 2024 playoffs race, PBKS could still qualify, provided they win their remaining six games with a superior net run rate.
