The Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana has been suspended for one IPL match and fined 100 % of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct for the second time in the IPL 2024 season. Harshit Rana becomes the first player in the IPL 2024 season to face a ban for breaching the code of conduct. Rana was found to have committed a level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL code of conduct, which deals with 'Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player in the Match'.
As per the IPL code of conduct, "Without limitation, Article 2.5 includes: (a) excessive celebration directed at and in close proximity to the dismissed batter; (b) verbally abusing the dismissed batter; and (c) pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion. Nothing in this Article 2.5 is, however, intended to stop Players celebrating, in an appropriate fashion, the dismissal of the opposing Team's batter."
Harshit Rana was literally throwing fireballs during his match-winning spell of 2/28 in 4 overs. The young fast bowler from Haryana celebrated with an animated gesture after he got the wicket of the left-handed batter Abishek Porel in the 7th over of the contest. Harshit Rana gave the batter a 'send-off' during his celebrations by pointing towards the dugout. Rana admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction. This was the second time in this IPL that the bowler was penalised under Article 2.5 of the IPL code of conduct.
