Star England allrounder Liam Livingstone has decided to leave IPL 2024 early to get his knee 'sorted' before England's T20 World Cup defence. He has suffered multiple muscle-related injuries in his career, and even during the ongoing IPL 2024 season, the English cricketer missed a couple of games due to injuries. Livingstone announced his decision to leave Punjab Kings early, citing a recent knee injury, and thanked fans for their support throughout the season via his Instagram account. The star allrounder mentioned that playing in the IPL was a great experience despite Punjab's tough IPL campaign, which has left them at the bottom of the points table.
Liam Livingstone leaves Punjab Kings for Knee Rehab before ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024
Liam Livingstone’s knee injury isn’t severe, and the star allrounder is expected to be fit for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, slated to begin on June 1. Defending champions England will be playing against Pakistan in a four-match T20I series before travelling to the Caribbean and the USA, and there are doubts about whether the allrounder will play the T20I series. Livingstone announced his decision to leave Punjab Kings early, citing a recent knee injury, and thanked fans for their support throughout the season via his Instagram account.
"IPL done for another year, had to get my knee sorted for the upcoming World Cup. Thanks once again to the Punjab Kings fans for all their love and support. Disappointing season as a team and personally, but as always I loved every minute of playing in the IPL," he wrote on Instagram.
Star England allrounder Liam Livingstone finished his IPL 2024 season playing just 7 matches, scoring 111 runs at a strike rate of 142.30. With the ball, the 30-year-old picked up just three wickets. His form is currently under scrutiny, and if the cricketer fails to improve, his spot in the playing XI in England may get compromised. Meanwhile, skipper Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Will Jacks, Sam Curran and Reece Topley are expected to fly back to England later in the week after the completion of the IPL 2024 league stage fixtures.
Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali retain their positions as captain and vice-captain from the victorious 2022 T20 World Cup. Also, as per the directives by the England Cricket Board, the England players who are currently taking part in the Indian Premier League will not be part of the IPL 2024 playoffs. They will be returning home for the 4-match T20I series against Pakistan. The ECB also announced that the team will travel to the Caribbean on May 31 for their T20 World Cup 2024 against Scotland at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, on Wednesday June 4.
