The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered a major setback as Indian pacer Shivam Mavi has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2024 season due to an injury. Shivam Mavi, who was roped in by LSG for a whopping INR 6.4 crore during the IPL 2024 auction, was expected to play a crucial role in the team's bowling attack. Mavi's injury has dealt a severe blow to LSG, as they were relying on the young pacer to strengthen their bowling attack. The cricketer from Uttar Pradesh did not play a single game for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the previous IPL season despite their run to the final. Upon arriving in LSG, he had planned for a fresh start, but his injury has put his plans on hold.

In a video released by Lucknow Super Giants on their official social media handle, Mavi revealed that he was carrying an injury even before joining the team camp, but he was hopeful of playing matches and contributing to the team's success. Unfortunately, the injury has now forced him to leave the camp to start his rehabilitation process.

"I will miss [the tournament] a lot. I had come here after an injury and had thought I would play matches for my team and do well. But unfortunately, I will have to leave because I have suffered an injury," Shivam Mavi said in the video.

Indian pacer Shivam Mavi, who last played a competitive match in August 2023, emphasized the importance of mental strength for a cricketer during times of injury. Mavi also extended his support for the Lucknow Super Giants and expressed hope for their maiden IPL glory in the IPL 2024 season.

"A cricketer has to be mentally strong for this. If you have an injury, you need to see what you have to do to make a comeback, what things you need to take care of. We got a very good team, I will keep cheering for the team and hopefully, we will win," Mavi added.

This is the third time LSG has lost a player to injury this IPL 2024 season. Due to workload management, the franchise lost Mark Wood and replaced him with Shamar Joseph. LSG's resources were further strained after David Willey's departure, leading to the inclusion of Matt Henry as his replacement. The team hasn't announced any replacement for Mavi so far. LSG is currently in fourth place on the points table, having won two out of three games. They will next play against Gujarat Titans at home on April 7.
